Help with wife's Plymouth!
Our "extra" car is my wife's '90 Plymouth Acclaim with the 3.0L OHC V-6 (Mitsubishi engine). For a while there's been an intermittent valve tap that quieted down for a while with Seafoam. Yesterday it started fine (cold start), idled and ran fine. Parked for 1/2 hour and upon warm restart it ran like a chugging locomotive. I suspected only 5 cylinders and pulled the wires one at a time from the dist. cap. All caused a drop in idle except #3. I confirmed that the plug wire and plug are good but that cylinder was the culprit. If the car is allowed to sit and get totally cold, it starts up fine again but the problem recurs again on hot restart. Another 1/2 can of Seafoam hasn't cured it this time. Does this sound like a valve "going bad" or something like that? As I said...this is our spare set of wheels and I already suspect the trans is showing early signs of leaking seals, so I'm not prepared to invest a lot of time and $ into it. Just wanted to get some opinions from those more knowledgeable than me!
