At a loss....

I've been tagging along with a friend of mine in his Neon SRT-4 and I've decided i need/want one... I've wanted a newer car for about a year now and the newest thing I've ever owned is my two 97 lh's. I know where there is a mint SRT-4 for sale, they want 16,000 for it, black, 5spd all the goodies even has tinted windows already.. I might be able to trade the corde in and get this car, have a 5 spd like i want, and have something nice. How ever i need to get head gaskets put on my car, get the exhaust fixed, put all the a/c components back on, and change all the other little tweaks I've done back to stock. I talked to the guy at the stealership and he said that i would be able to get $300 a month payments (thats what i asked for) and almost every thing i wanted/needed to have or do to get the car. I'm setting here stuck between each of them and i have no idea what to do.

The corde seems like it is gonna turn into a money pit soon. If i get the head gaskets fixed and get it off my hands asap then i think I'll be relieved a little bit, but very sad i wish i could have both but i can only have one... What do you guys think?

Sounds pricey... $16K for a car that cost about $20K brand new? I think 2005 SRT 4's can be found in the $10K and under range these days.

Are they giving you that much for the Concorde that you can't hang on to it?

The srt only has 36,000 on it... I'm bored with the corde, i mean i love it, it is a fun car but I've done almost all i can do with out dumping lots of money into it. I kinda want to get out from under it right now...

Did you factor in an increase in the price of insurance for an SRT-4 yet?

I'm gonna search around and see if i cant find one cheaper, i doubt i'd get that one but you know it's nice to dream but if i do decide to get one then it will be soon (next couple months) i hope.

Insurance isn't that much of a scare for me it is $110 a month as is, my insurance guy i know on a personal level and he told me and my mother both it wouldn't matter if i drove an beat up truck, or an new car my insurance would stay close to the same.

bro, i used to sell cars. mazda, then chevy.

my dads been in it for 20 years.

you will overpay for the car, because they will take some of the profit and use it to '' give'' you more for your trade.

i cant tell you how many times someone brought something that was an auction car in, and we would sell them a better used car for way more and use profit to tell them ok your buying the car for way more, but hey look were giving you way more for your trade so it equals out.

it worked every time.

also think about this. how long have you had your car now? 5 years?

because 16,000 financed at 24 percent interest---- im not saying you have bad credit, im just saying thats the highest allowed...

so 16k at 24% is 19500

guess what 19500 financed for 5 years is?

325 a month!

yep. i can do all that in my head in about 15 seconds.

we used that alot.

the average car buyers idea of a good car payment is 300 a month. tell them they can leave in it for 300 a month and it gets their gears turning.

also another cool one i used alot when i needed something quick to say is---- at 24 percent your basically paying 20 bucks a month for every thousand dollars financed.

it comes out to be a little less... but its pretty easy math to do on the fly.

so yeah--- sleep on it for a few days man. a new car is the worst investment youll ever make financially unless your buying some crazy ass collectors car, and you cant really drive those anyways lol.

and also think of this, on a new tahoe if the customer payed sticker---- didnt try to talk me down because they thought they were really saving cash by getting rebates----(the manufacturer pays the stealership back for any rebates----- i would profit 7 to 8 grand. my take on that was 22 percent. you do the math. not bad for a days work lol.

but yeah im in the army now serving my country.... so dont hate because i USED to be a car salesman lol.

trust me when i say man used is the way to go, but if your financing, your not really buying anything. your renting it until you decide to trade it in, and then youll lose money once again lol. its not something i would ever do.

just one more thing- for those that are wondering---- yes that means if you want a new car at invoice, you can get it at invoice and still get the rebates.

the internet sales guy and fleet sales guy are the one to talk to on new cars. they make money on how many cars they sell, not how much they make, so they have no prob selling it for invoice.

so if you want a new truck or car, get it for invoice, then get the 4000 in rebates or whatever.

thank me later lol

Just remember, anytime you buy a used performance car, count on it that it's been ragged on. Make sure you do a carfax at least.

I've decided i might as well keep the car and finish what i've started, who knows after i get the car payed off i might turn it into a strip/nice night type car and save some money and go buy an srt-4 out right. I'll just play the smart card and not put my self further in debt. Thanks for all the input guys it helped...
