Salvage Title, 300M, questions

Last night I drove to Cedar Rapids and checked out almost every dealership that town had lol and finally found a few 300M's the one that I thought was all cheap and somewhat happy to see what complete trashed. Pieces were missing, hood was scratched bad, engine was making a belt noise, outside trim pieces were missing, etc. I passed on that one after I talked him down a 1,000 and he said no.

Then I went and looked at an 02 300M in Gold color with 70,000 miles for 7000. I'm sure I can talk'em down a nit. However it has a salvage title from a rear end crash. She looks all good now. This car has crystal clean headlights, the car is just all around clean. Leather looks new, engine sounds perfert! I wasnt too excited about the Gold color but I think it does look nice after seeing it in person. Also gold isnt a color you see alot on the road. I'm waiting for this guy to call me back to tell me about the salvage title.

Questions -
Anyone have carfax?
I know they did some cost cutting in 02 what all was cut? (02 means newer BCM?)
Is 7000 good for an 02 that looks almost mint?
Does the salvage title scare people? (If i ever wanted to resell the car it may give me problems selling it)
(My moms mini van has a salvage title because it was in a dealership warehouse fire and the mirrors and some paint melted in a fire. But the van looks good after they fixed it and wasnt in any vechile accidents)

Sounds high for a salvage title when the guy tells you it was hit in the rear!

If it was bad enough to write off ....

Looked at an 04 special for $ 7200 that needs a rear bumper.

Another 04 for $6100 with 4 snows and a hitch!

I'd think the salvage tithe will hurt resale value down the road.

Better to keep looking and get a good car to start

Good point GN300. I'm just really excited about the loan and wanna get a car ASAP but I need to view my options. I hear 04 is a bad model to get all around?

Can someone explain all the Factory Groups that the 300M's had

I'm going to pass on the one with a salvage title I think and look for others. They are kinda hard to come by or the ones I do find are in the 12 grand range.

The salvage title might be an issue for some insurance companies also!

If I recall, 02 ( prior to cut backs ) is one of the better years to get, especially if you find a "special" I would however avoid anything with a salvage title.

04 is not the best year but only because of trim levels and the PCM, but those things are easily changed ( and a lot more fun too! ) Just look at Shadow's 04. It's just goofy little things like the rubber tab on the hood release, and stuff. If you can save yourself a few bucks, then why not.

Another "problem" with the newer M's is that they cost more. Granted the resale will be higher too lol.

Garage
Id stay away from a salvage title, unless you plan on keeping the car until it is a pile of scrap metal. Salvage titles kill resale value more than anything.

If your getting a loan for it the bank may not want to finance a car with a salvage title either.

Heres the plan. I'm going to look over the car again to make my final decision. I plan on getting the car with a salvage title if everything tomorrow checks out ok. The bank will loan up to 70percent of what NADA says its worth. They would of done 100 but the salvage title rule is 70percent. Which is ok I can make that work. My insurance company will insure my car with a salvage title. The dealership gave me to the number of the guy who owned it for 4 years and I got some info from him. The car was bought by him in 04. It had 17,000 and was considered a salvage car because of a fire inside the car. Caused by electric wires under the front seat. He ripped everything out of the car and replaced the electric wires, carpet, seats, dash, headliner and sunroof door and glass. The guy drove this car for 4 years and managed to get 71,000 miles on it. He traded it in for a 2008 300C. So the guy had the car for 4 years and had no problems with it, so he says. Hopefully if it all works out I will be a proud owner of a 2002 300M on Friday.

agreed.

Salvage = yours for life

02 was the best lineup for the special, first year it came out. It will have the new BCM but it wont affect you since you wont have anything to add to an already complete car LOL. So it has the optimal components, highest quality interior and missing no options whatsoever.

03 started cost cutting but not as drastic as 04.
