99 intrepid 3.2 dieing

hello my 99 intrepid 3.2 needs some help
1st off my engine light is on and throws a code p1494 which involves the evap system some way but will this cause my car to stall while driving it?
if I'm giving it gas its fine but if I'm stopped at a stop light with foot on break and wants to die but not all the time though if not do u have any suggestion as too what may be causing the issue I took it to my mechanic and they really cant tell until it does it and sadly it never does it while there.
sometimes when it does die I have to sit there for a few mins then it will start back up but that's only like 1 in 6 times that it it dies

Is the car misfiring? the code you have is specificaly :P1494 Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault

The leak detection pump puts the gas tank and emissions components under two pounds of pressure while you're driving, then a sensor watches two see if that pressure leaks down. If it does, as in when you don't tighten the gas cap, a fault code is set and the Check Engine light turns on. That fault code will indicate a small leak or a large leak. The code you have indicates that pump is not building pressure at all. Either what controls the pump has a problem or the pump isn't running. That system won't cause the car to stall, but the Check Engine light will be on. If the pump is broken, gas will evaporate out causing emissions and reduced fuel economy. The Check Engine light is required to turn on when the detected fault could have an adverse affect on emissions.

From what Villanopha28 says, it doesn't sound like tightening or replacing the gas cap is going to fix it.

Hopefully it's a bad vacuum or electrical connection that can be easily fixed. But if it turns out that your LDP is bad, let me know. I scrapped my '99 Concorde a month ago, and I saved the LDP and related hoses and other evap. stuff off the fuel tank.
