Outer Tie Rod nut replacement
Swapped out my front struts, my tie rods are still tight, but I didn't want to re-use the nut because it has the nylon locking insert.
I went to Ottawa Fastener Supply in my area and I told the guy my application and gave him the OEM nut. He gave me a nut with a nylon insert that is about 3/4s the height of the originals. On the back of the nut there are some codes, I8I, on one side and what looks like the letter Z on the other.
From what I could gather, this is a grade 8 nut and the two bars mean it has a limited loadability. Know idea what the Z means, but I'm assuming it means Zinc Plated.
The bottom of the OEM nut has a 9, II and the letter S. The 9 I assume means grade 9, the II bars no idea unless it means the same thing as on the new nut. The S I guess means stainless steel.
Anyways I am no fastener expert, but I don't want to risk my tie rod un-doing on me, if this were for stabilizer links, I'd be much less concerned.
Anyone know anything about fasteners? I've scoured the internet for something similar to OEM and can't find it anywhere.
I included a side by side pic.
