Whats an intrepid worth....

Hey guys, what is a intrepid worth with a 3.3L engine? The car needs a transmission it's stuck in 2nd gear.

I bought my girlfriend a Mercury Cougar with a 3.8L for $900 and I'm freakin' sick of it. The car has gave me nothing but troubles. I have a friend i work with that has a 3.3L intrepid pretty nice lookin' car needs some work tough. I might be able to get him to sell it to me for around $750. Is that to high for a car that needs a transmission?

Clayton

Are you sure it needs a transmission and isn't just in "limp home" mode?

I would definantly check this first.

$750 is a few hundred high for a 1st Gen with a bad tranny. I usually see them go for about $500. You can easily buy a 2nd Gen 2.7 tranny for $300, and have a car that will last a very long time.

Ive thought about a 1G in the past, but couldnt justify for shits and giggles. Anyhow I probably wouldnt touch it for that price unless it was low mileage and in near mint condition. I dont just mean the body but the suspension engine......

My 97 3.3 lasted me up to 190k before it needed a head gasket(cake on a 3.3). I sold it soon after when I got married and the new guy trashed it within 6 months. I sold it running and in good condition for $400.00

I would have sold you mine with a bad tranny for $750. I'm assuming is was in better shape otherwise than anything else you would find.

Don't know about price with a bad tranny, but I gave 350 for my '94 with an unknown-but-assumed bad headgaskets... no body rust, paint good, only minor dings, only interior damage was a worn drivers seat where you slide into it, and a cracked windshield...

She wanted 1500 for it originally... HA!

Depending on condition of the car, I wouldnt give more than about $300 for one, unless it was super nice. You can buy a good running one for $1000-$1200.

Try a speed sensor before you dump it.

Well the guy told me he would sell it to me for $600, the car with run 70 at about 5500rpm. I have had him try a new computer, and change the transmission fluid and it didn't make a difference i told him to disconnect the battery for a wile and reset the computer didn't do anything, i even drove the car and tried to get it to shift and it wouldn't. The engine runs good, it needs cleaned up but it runs good, exterior looks almost mint.

It has a bench seat up front and in the back, column(spl?) shift. Pretty good lookin' car. I'd be tempted to buy the thing for my self instead of my girlfriend.

If i bought it for my self, I'd have an 97' corde with a 3.5L and a 95' trep with a 3.3L

Clayton

Edit: The intrepid is a 95'

Concorde R/T?
