Something fishy...

I just had my Trep worked on at the local shop. I had the Transmission cooler and the cooling lines replaced. I also had the lower oil cooler line from the lower pan to the lower radiator replaced.
The estimated time was 2 days for the lines to arrive from the dealership and 1 day to do the work.. all in all it took 8 days ...
The key I gave them was just a metal key with the dealer identification keychain tag on it.
The key I recieved back was a key with the black rubber Chrysler "key grip" on it.
I told him I don't think this is my key.. unless they put the rubber on it.. He assured me it was my key and that is how they got it they did not put the rubber on it because it has to come from the dealer that way..
My main key has a dodge symbol on the rubber grip.
[EDIT] The key i got back DOES work.

Now I think they took the car to the dealer to do something and the dealer either put the rubber on it or copied the key and gave me a new one.

I just think this is really weird. Has anyone ever seen the dealer put a rubber on a metal key?

You need to go to every dealer you can with your title and or registration. Request to view the key log, they should have one. Its there record of what key they cut and for who. When my 1G was stolen it was a shop that did it. When my brother found the car on there grounds hidden out back it had the key they had cut in the visor, it was new and cut at a dealer. Sadly the dealer "lost" the log book but thats another story.

You need to find out why the key was cut, the rubber is molded to the key in manufacturing-dealers dont do it.

Somebody is full of shit, it may be an honest mistake that they misplaced yours but F'k that.

What shop was it?...

Find out why your key is missing. When a key is cut its obvious that its fresh with no wear on it, I cant believe they tried to BS you

Ok now you confirmed my fears...

I just looked at the key and it does not look fresh cut at all, Infact its more rounded than my daily use key, and my other spare (which is also rubberized with a DODGE symbol)
But the identifiaction keychain tag says and i quote
"Year 2000
Make Dodge
Model Intrepid
Body Sedan
Color BLUE"

MY CAR IS A 2002 SILVER
I'm going back tomorrow to talk to the mechanic and see why this key works and it is clearly not my key.

What are the possibilities that they had 2 intrepid at the same time and both keys worked on both cars... and the other person didnt notice that they got a metal key back....

[EDIT] Welch Automotive Group Inc. was the shop btw

I think the odds would be amazing, the key not looking fresh would support the idea but damn those are some odds.

Do you have a spare key? See if it still fits your ignition and doors. Something weird is def up here!

Unless the person is an idiot they noticed they didnt get the same key.
