Test drove a Charger today!!!

You know what..... I went and test drove a 06 Charger SXT 3.5L today.
Beautiful car. Peppy, silver, , blacked out windows, only 43,000kms, and $15000 cdn. It was great, ........but is was no Intrepid. My 2.7L with its aftermarket exhaust just feels and sounds like so much more of a car. I couldn't believe how quiet the Charger was. My car is louder at idle than that thing was at full bore.

Quite sad when the salesman started it up. I had to ask him if he was sure it was running.lol You might as well be driving an SUV cuz you feel like you are sitting 2 feet higher than you do in the trep.

I'm not bashing the Charger. It's an awesome car. I will buy one someday. I'm sure the 5.7L R/T would rock my world. But for now, I think I'll just go give my trep a wash, and be grateful I have it. It's only got 70,000kms on it and has a lot of life left in it.

Now I just feel guilty for thinking of trading it in..

If you're thinking of it, you need to drive one with a HEMI 1st. I had a HEMI Magnum in Orlando as a rental and it was a lot of fun. AWD, which wouldn't be my choice, but it got along just fine. I love the 3.5 liter, but surely would take a 5.7 or 6.1 any day.

Oh, i like it too. It will still be my next car. I know I sounded a little bashy. I just thought for the extra $12 or $13 thousand it was gonna cost me this morning, I am still pretty happy with my trep, and I might as well keep her for now. I'm not going to get more than about $1500 on a trade. And it just seems a waste when I only have 70,000kms on it.

I guess I'm just trying to talk myself into not buying it. It was a really nice nice nice car.

$1500 for the trep? you're better off keeping it.

Ya, I think I'll wait. It just seemed like a really good deal. But the morale of the story is not to settle for something close to what you want, and to just go for what you want. My wife really liked it to , but she thinks I wouldn't be happy with it, and also thinks I should go with the Daytona when one comes along. What a great wife!!! She also wants her Expedition lifted another 4 inches....

I too like the LX cars, but I'm more partial to the 300C. And, like you I just can't come to grips with the cost difference. I've owned my '95 Vision Tsi since new and although it has 100K miles on the clock, it still runs very well.

I think Chrysler has a 50% chance of going bankrupt. If that happens, the cars will depreciate very quickly. I'd be looking to get a good used 300C for $10K That would be the deal.

I agree, great wife!

I tried to test drive a Challenger SRT or Charger SRT yesterday. They wouldn't let me do it. Understandable because they said the people that would buy these cars generally want no miles on them. Course I also told them I drive that lovely modded Intrepid over there and wouldn't trade it in unless I was basically handed one of the aforementioned cars, and they kind of stopped talking to me until I burned some smoke in the lot and went along my merry way. Now every time I stop there they try to sell me something, including a 6.1L crate Hemi that they had sitting around.

Went on Dodge's main website today to put together a Charger R/T today. I just wanted to see what it would cost and I realized I seriously either need a second job or I need a better one immediately. I looked up a black on black R/T with a 5.7 and no unnecessary crap like Ipod connecting stereos or side and rear airbags or run flat tires. What I came up with was 5K down payment which brought the principle down to 30K and no trade in. It turned out to be 550 a month and I'm in the process of getting an insurance quote. Probably be rediculous though we'll see.

Right now with the economy the way it is, you could probably get a used LX (or any car for that matter) less than a year old, with less than 10k (16k km's) , still have the factory warranty and save thousands. I bought my 2006Magnum in 2006 as a lease return. Was like new still and I saved $10,000.

Yeah, if I was to trade my Magnum in, I would take an easy $5,000 loss. Of course that's partly because I put alot of miles on it roadtripping alot, but stll, no matter what car you trade in, you aren't going to get alot. The car dealers are hurting right now with the economy and not as many people buying new cars...

I found a 2007 Charger R/T with 22K miles for 18,000 locally. Might go through my bank and see what they say, gotta work out my budget before I start that though.

The Charger R/T is my next vehicle. A Mercedes 5 speed transmission, built on a RWD late-model E-class chassis. Good combination.
