Question for you guys?

I have a friend that works for a dodge dealership. His co worker quoated me a price of 500.00 for the labor to install valve seals, timing set, water pump. All the parts will cost me 342.69 for a total of 842.69. I called the other local dealership and they want 1232.00 just to install valve seals . So i guess im asking you guys is this a good price compared to what you paid if you had this job done. Thanks in advance.

I cant afford 2000.00 . that is probably what it would cost to get it done. My engine sounds like new. Im only doing this because of preventive maintance. My car is spotless with no rust so im not cutting a loss as you say.

Are you burning oil Kevin? What makes you think you need to replace valve seals?

yeah its burning about quart about every 1500 miles. It has the typical puff of blue smoke on take off about 50% of the time. After the blue puff it stops quickly after. I guess its not a big deal but i hate seeing the smoke coming out of a decent looking car

If you are confident in what your friend tells you about this guys skills, then let him do it for $500. What is your parts list - maybe we can help you find the stuff a bit cheaper.

pay me the bus, and i will do for $200 and your car is ready in 6hr. (seriously)

you don't need the intake gaskets (only if they are crap).

seriously is not a bad price for a dealership but you can find better prices yet.

110000 miles, the engine sounds like it was when new. Just uses a little bit of oil.

It's up to you. If you KNOW that it was taken care of before/while you owned it, you can go a bit further on the water pump and timing chain. As long as you changed the oil at 3000 miles on the dot, you should be fine. Another thing to check is your coolant level. If you have to add some every once in awhile, your water pump is probably on its way out. Last thing to check is to look into the hole under the oil cap. If it looks brown, thats ok. Black and crusty means you need to change it ASAP!

I am the second owner of this car according to carfax. I bought it with 84000 miles and now i have 110000. It uses no antifreeze at all. The bottom of oil cap is very clean and when looking in the oil filler hole it looks spotless with no oil build up. Im going to get the water pump and timing chain set changed for preventive maintance since he has to take the chain and cams off anyway. This car has a rust free body and it rides like it was when new. to me its worth putting the money into instead of another car payment. I really like this car except the little puff of blue smoke on take offs 50 % of the time.
