What is the factory Weight on a 2000 Intrepid 2.7L?
I have a question hoping someone can give me a answer to. We my wife and I have owned our 2000 Dodge Intrepid since buying it used at 2 years old in August of 2002. It was a company car leased to the Company my wife works for. A salesman left the company and my wife saw the car in the parking lot and had a interest in it so we purchased it. Its been a great car. We still have it with just a little over 115K miles on it. Not a lot of mileage for so many years being my wife works within 2 miles away. Ever since buying the 2000 Intrepid in 2002 I felt that I was getting overcharged for my Registration in the state of New Jersey for the car. For the last 14 years I just paid it and mailed it in. Was do to pay it again so I thought before I do so let me google the weight of the car as to what Chrysler said the car weighed in 2000. 3 sources on line show me that the car weighs about 3470,3471 and 3489 lbs. Well NJ charges almost double the cost of a registration on vehicles weighing 3500 lbs or more. Its the principal now to me because if I am right and my 2000 Intrepid with the 2.7L engine from the factory weighs less then 3500 lbs it cost me just over $420 more over the last 14 years to register it. I tried doing a Google search with my Vin number hoping to see something but came up blank. If anyone can help me prove my point here it would be much appreciated. I just need to know. Let me add just one thing. I called NJ Motor Vehicle about this yesterday. They told me since the car is so old now that I would need to bring it to a Weigh Station to have it weighed and then for me to bring the slip to my local DMV to prove the car weighs less then 3500 lbs if that is the case. What bugs me is that I didn't have to do that in 2002 or had to do this with any other cars I have owned over the years being the DMV supposedly gets their info from the manufacturers. I just feel who ever put the information in on my car made a mistake. Am I wrong or right?
