bad starter noise

hello, my 03 3.5 190,000kms makes this terrible grinding noise when trying to start, replaced the starter with no difference, ringgear teeth and starter teeth looked okay, if i rotate the motor by hand about 1/4" it might start but still sounds bad, put a wrench on the front crank bolt and can turn the motor over no problem, if i do get it started everything sounds great and the trans works fine,

today someone said it's the ringgear"cracked"

any advise would be greatly appreciated

thanks, Bill

Welcome to the site Bill.

Two things, either the ignition or starter relay is sticking on and causing the starter to continue to run after the engine starts, or there is a bad spot in the flywheel. Did you spin the engine and check the whole ring gear with the starter out?

You may also have just gotten a bad starter.
