dash gauge problem

my friend has a problem the same as "sqiggy" had. her dash gauges don't work and her tranny sometimes will not shift out of 2nd gear. the tranny will work right after cycling the ignition but the gauges will not move and cannot get any codes. anyone have this before and fixed it? should I try reseting the computer?
by the way it is a '94"

I'm not sure about the guages, but the problem with the tranny sounds like "limp mode". Basically the speed sensors go bad and the tranny protects itself by only shifting to 2nd gear. Try doing a search through the forums for limp mode, you'd be surprized at what you find

You can find info about "LIMP MODE" in the FAQ or HOW TO sections of the forums.

Your friend's probably has a bad ingition switch. It seems as though the only circuit being powered up when she turns the ignition on is circuit A21. A21 powers up pretty well everthing needed to run the engine but not the trans control module which would explain the limp in mode.
