Sad Frustrated: HELP!

I searched but I couldn't find a problem as similar as mine. I have a 1998 Dodge Intrepid (which I dearly love) and recently it has been acting up. While driving, the engine just dies. It doesn't jerk, or clank or give any warning. I only notice because I push the accelerator and nothing happens. At first I would just quickly put it in neutral and turn the ignition and it would just start up. But lately, it turns off and it won't turn on for a few minutes. It happens on the highway but it also happened to me in a parking lot. The check engine light is not on and we scanned it but no codes came up. We changed the relay for the fuel pump, checked the fuel pressure, and nothing. It doesnt do it everyday either. It tends to do it every other day or so. I'm taking it to get the crank/cam sensors replaced, but I'm still hesitant on whether that could be the reason because the computer scanner hasn't picked anything up. Anyone else familiar with this problem or have any suggestions? I was thinking today maybe my car's alarm is glitching and cutting off the engine? Help, help, help!!

I would first eliminate the car alarm as a possible cause. Also, check to see if there's any loose wires that you can see from the instalation. Then if it's still doing it get the cam/crank sensors changed. After that, I would think possible PCM issue.

The alarm is manufacturers alamr... does that make a difference? its in the shop right now getting the cam/cranksensors replaced. i hope that does it... what is that pcm??

PCM - or more correctly in your case, the Engine Control Module, is what tells the engine what to do, based on what it receives.
Your cam and crank sensors should have posted a trouble code that could be read - no code, generally, no problem with them; however, could be intermittent.
That should give a trip failure, but that is only accessable with a DRBIII scanner.
Best guess would be a faulty connection somewhere, start with the ECM connectors, remove and inspect & clean, then the two engine connectors above; pull all the relays in the block and reinsert - you could change them around as well, perhaps change the symptoms to a different area if it is a failing relay.

I hope it's not a 2.7l

When is the last time you changed the spark plugs?

Do you get an oil pressure light?

Crankshaft position sensor ued to be a weak link but i think they fixed that

Test the pcm (if you have to replace this i would recomend getting one from the junkyard)

Could posibly be the tcm (but not likely)

With theese computers it could be about a million different things, but I would try to get a full electrical diagnostic.

If it is a 2.7l they are known to have sludge problems which can cause symptoms like this

My brothers car did this and fuel injection cleaner sloved the problem ( but I would avoid puting crap like that in your car if you can avoid it )

hope you can get it fixed fast because it's probably either electrical, or the start of something very bad
