Angry Car Starting Issues Last Try

I'm back! Same issue continues on. I have had zero luck with diagnostic and another half hearted attempt by a shop to figure out the car's starting issue. Hoping if I give the brief and somewhat updated run down on the issue that maybe someone will know whats up with this car! Or at least give me some ideas what to tell the next mechanic. I have funds for one more shot at this.

Car ran fine. Drove from Atlanta to Vancouver Washington this January. Going through Wyoming in sub freezing temps and a wind or 40mph, the car overheats. Pulled over immediately and found I had stupidly failed to insure the coolant cap was on correctly. Thanks to the low temps it appears no obvious engine damage. No coolant leaks after filling it back up. (guessing this could be helpful info) Drove all the way to eastern Oregon without a problem. Last stop for gas, after filling, car wouldnt start. IT did about 30 mins later.

2.7L
1. car dash comes on, bells ding when key turned. I hear a strange zzz noise every time I turn the car to full on for a second and thats it.

2. no check engine light
3. wipers, radio, fan, etc. all work fine
4. No crank-nothing (just warning bell that door is open & dash lights up)
5. Also, there is no security system on this vehicle

I recently noticed that this happens after the car sits after a drive. If I turn the car off and then try to start it again in 5 minutes, it starts fine. If I come back an hour later or more, it fails to start - and stays that way for anywhere from 1-3 days. Then it will just start like normal. Then after I drive someplace, the cycle repeats - doesnt start for 1-3 days - always. So I have to leave it running and locked when I go anywhere which is really a bummer since I cant stay anyplace! On a very rare occasion it has started after sitting for an hour or so-but its maybe once a month for that blessing.

Does any of this ring any bells? The last mechanic kept it for 5 days and said they only got it to fail starting once, and charged me $80 to plug in a new starter relay :/ Said they'd never seen anything like it. I need to take it someplace else.

Starter?

The buzzing noise you hear for a few seconds when you turn the ignition key to the ON position is the Fuel Pump running to get the Fuel Rail charged.

When you say doesn't start you mean it doesn't turn over or that it turns over and doesn't fire? The fact that the mechanics replaced the starter relay makes me think its the former and not the latter. The heat soak issue is interesting and makes me think its a wiring issue probably a grounding issue with the secondary starter relay circuit.

Could also be a cable or fusible link issue. Seeing as how the starter doesn't do anything but you seem to have power to other circuits...I'm leaning towards the starter or the circuit surrounding it.

One thing to check would be to have the headlights on when this occurs and see if the dim drastically or turn off when trying to engage the starter.

Has the battery been Load Tested?

The Transmission Range Sensor takes care of notifying the TCM/PCM what gear the transmission is in.

Next time this happens...look at the integument cluster to verify it indicates the car is in Park or Neutral. If it isn't.....then no starter crank!

Could also have an Ignition Switch that is crapping out. Just need to go through the list above.
