Since joining this forum in January, I now log on about 3 times a day to catch up with the current and past threads. While I do not contribute to many, I have to say that I find this site very informative and and at times a place of light hearted relief. Thanks to all those that have given me the answers without me asking the question. This is great site for any Intrepid owner.
My first intrepid that had the engine failure, well the piston rod snapped in the block. To replace the crank, gaskets, all new bearings, 1 x rod & ring set, oil pump cost me $1150 in parts.
The morale of this story, my local dodge dealer quoted me over $1650 for parts and in the end they did a price match for $1150. If you don't ask, you don't get and they still made money on their cost price. Labour will come in at around $600, (24 hours x $25) so it could have been worse.
Finding a good mechanic is the essense of running any car and keeping it on the road at an affordable price without paying any of the $75 per hour dealer fees. As a result, I just bought a used Dodge B1500 Ram with a V8 engine. Now this is a fun van to drive.
