What are the stock 6x9's??

Whats up people,
Just bought a 2003 TREP and it doesn't have the infinity system. I am going to install a kenwood kdm-5019 deck (50wx4) and I am wondering if it would benefit me and my ears to upgrade the stock 6x9's. What kind of 6x9's are they if anyone knows?? I don't want to tear apart the back seat yet just to read a brand ya know?? Any input would be great!!

I did mine (a 2002) 3 weeks ago. The "stock" speakers are no "brand." They have the Chrysler logo on them and are just plain old paper ones. I put Clarion 6x9 Coax's in the rear and Pioneer 5 1/4 coax's in the front and it made a significant improvement! Now I'm holding off on a new head unit.

The OEM speakes are a no-name brand. Do you have the factory "door sails" in your car? If so there is a factory amp you'll need to deal with...

Nope. There are two OEM amplified systems. If you have the door sails, you have an OEM amp to deal with. Also, if you are looking for a how-to on replacing the rear speakers see the second gen how-to section. It's not a simple 10 minute task... ;)

i think he means the speakers at the top part of the door, or "Door Sail" as it is commonly referred to.

"Door sails" is a term that most people on this site use to refer to the speakers on top of the door panel near the side view mirrors. There are three basic stereo options for second gen treps:

non-amplified base 4 speaker system (lower front doors and rear deck).

120W amplified 6 speaker system (lower front doors, upper front doors speakers "door sails" and rear deck)

Infinity 240W amplified 9 speaker system (lower front doors, upper front doors "door sails," rear deck and center channel in front dash).

Both amplifiers are located in the passenger side kick panel area...

I have the base stereo system (4 speakers / no amp) I will install a kenwood 5019 (50x4 peak in the next few days (as soon as i get the shipment--ebay) All I want to run is the 4 interior speakers and maybe an amp for more power. They're called "sail speaker" because of the shape. With 1 straight edge and 1 curved, it's similar to a spinnaker sail on a sailboat.
