Thumbs down Pacifica

If anyone has a chance to test drive the new Pacifica, go for it. Im in skilled trades where we build these bad boys along side the minivan. I just had one out for the weekend and what an experience. This vehicle is absolutely amazing. The next gen 3.5L has lots of power. It is very deceiving from the out side as far as size. Its a car for someone who doesn't want to be in a Minivan or a larger SUV. It has all the luxuries of a sports tourer. Everywhere we went with this car, heads were turning and people were stopping us to have a look. Price is questionable however its still $6000-$9000 cheaper than all other competitors in this class of car. The on-board navigational system is a hit as well as the DVD system. It will tell you where you are to the exact inch of location on earth. Its absolutely impossible for you to get lost in this car. This car definitley has some bragging rights. The car was built for safety, deemed the "protector." Let me tell you, this car is solid. Lets not forget the rear end designed by the Germans in which i think comes from the C-class models. If anyone visits a show room looking to buy a new car. Check this car out. Take one for test drive.I guarantee you ,you won't be disappointed! Oh yeah, my R/T will become my second car as early as next year if you know what i mean.

The Pacifica is a minivan. :p According to the automotive press anyway. The EPA classifies it as a light truck.

It is an interesting concept, but really nothing that isn't on the market already. I'm kinda disapointed that it is using Chrysler's existing 4 speed automatic and not a 5 auto from the Mercedes or ZF parts bin.

Now, as for being $6,000-$9,000 cheaper, that is not really acurate. The FWD Pacifica comes in at around $32,000 and the AWD comes in around $34,000.

You can get a Lexus RX330 for around $35k.
You can get an Acura MDX for around $35k.
You can get a Volvo XC90 for $33k.

The list goes on and on.

It will be interesting to see how well the model fairs in the marketplace after the initial "Gee Whiz, something new." rush dies off.

I think the Pacifica will be a good competitor in whatever segment you wanna classify it in.

It's priced similarly, well-equipped, and offers some things that are unique... like the "step-across" entry and degress.

It's just different enough from it's competitors to stand out and yet still meets every goal that was set for it including but not limited to:

- Safety
- Blend of best attributes of the minivan, SUV, and sedan
- Style
- Elevation of the Chrysler brand

It needs to be $4,000-$5,000 cheaper. No Lexus or Acura buyer is going to seen in Chrysler. For the same price you can be driving a real luxury brand. Maybe once the incentives start it will be a deal. My sister has one as a company test car. They drive nice but its only a 4 speed Ultradrive and gets very poor gas mileage(in 6 weeks she has averaged under 14 MPG, 50/50 city/highway) . Not as peppy as I thought it would be. At 4,600LBS I understand why. DC needs a good CVT tranny. There is also a wicked blind spot in the rear with the wide rear pillers. Good thing it has big side mirrors. I think it will sell as a niche station wagon, but it will take sales from the Grand Cheroke and Town and country minivan. Good thing for Windsor since it looks like Minivan sales are in the crapper.
