Radiator Cap

The past few months, I have noticed my antifreeze keeps disappearing. I keep replacing the antifreeze and check back a week later and it will be low again. I was thinking it was leaking into the engine, because I have the 2.7, but yesterday as I was filling it I noticed the cap was torn. I went out and got a new cap. My question is, could the cap be why my antifreeze was leaking? When I took the cap off the last thousand times, there was no pressure being held so I was thinking maybe that could have a bit of influence on the leak?

Edit: Well after doing some more searching, I found out that this may be the reason, but if feel free to add anything that may help out, such as how I would know if there is air in the system and how to bleed the system...

the rubber seal on mine was gone by the time I found out, I guess running low on water cracked the plastic tank on top, very small leak, car runs on pepper for last 1000 miles

The coolant system in our cars is a pressurized system. I think it's about 15PSI. With a bad seal on the cap the cooling system tries to pressurize and ends up boiling over.
