Engine Swap?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows whether a 1997 3.5L will fit into a 2001 2.7L? Thanks for the help

why dont you get a 3.5 2nd gen engine? or even a 3.2 would be better than a 2.7!

1st gen engine is not compatible to a 2nd gen. 2001 intrepid would need a 98-01 3.2 or 3.5 engine.

you can,, but, you will need the wire looms that come on a 98-01 3.2-3.5, then you get to block off the EGR valve

I think what Dan was Talking was the most direct swap

you also would need to change the cam sprocket on the left side and the fly wheel to the pre 2002 style., along with adding EGR and changing some sensors etc.

It's a PITA to use a 02-04 engine in a 98-01 car and vice versa.

You can, but you have to do all this:

Can get pricey.

When I bought a 04 motor for my old 2000 ES I was able to save a lot of money on the conversion because 90% of the 3.2L parts can be used on the 3.5L. However when I used the same motor on my 02 SE I had to buy a engine wire harness, plenum, throttle body, another cam sprocket bolt and a few sensors. I think I paid about $400.00 when it was all said and done. For a 98-01 2.7L to a 02-04 motor swap would probably be twice that.
