New keyfob???

When I was test driving the new Pacifica the other week, I noticed that the keyless entry/alarm was built into the key all as one unit instead of a key and a keyfob.

Question is, can this new key/keyfob be programmed and cut to fit our current cars? Is the new keyless/alarm different than what we have? If so, I'd like to have one so that it eliminates having a big ass key chain in my pocket. What's also nice too is that the key has an eye on the side of the key where it would attach to a key ring, so even if you have it on a keyring with a bunch of other keys, it hardly takes up any space on the ring itself.

It's hard to explain it, but basically all high end cars and Hondas have keys like this. I want one.

It's probably a thing Mercedese brought over for use on the Pacifica. Just about every car maker except the local big 3 have been using this type of setup for several years. I've heard pros and cons to them. The big pro is like you said, the key and fob are all one unit. The big cons are, the keys are extremely expensive to replace (you're now replacing key, fob and passive transmitter), they are about twice the size of a normal key, and the metal key portion sticking out of the plastic transmitter provides great leverage for breaking the transmitter apart. Lexus, Mercedese and VW have solved this with the fold out key, but those are even more expensive because of the laser cut inverse key style. Also, if you ever upgrade your factory keyless for an aftermarket alarm or remote start, you're still stuck carrying the OEM key/fob combination...

Haven't seen any specs/service manual on the Pacifica so I can't say yes or no but they sure would be sweet.
