Go ahead and beat me but we need a sticky

Alright...I am certain I will catch a lot of crap for this but I am going there anyway

As near as I can find we do not have a sticky on subpackage differences (Police, SXT/ R/T)
Yeah yeah.."do a search". Well I did...have you seen how many threads come up and how confusing and contradictory the information is? I looked through the PDF at the police index and that seems to pretty much cover just the electrical systems. Truthfully I have found a few "definitive" answers for some of the difference and that only because they are at least consistent. SO let's start with what I have found...

Police packages...autolight switch has stealth mode instead of normal auto operation ..how this works can be found and is a function of the BCM
...have a different sway bar...beefier and originally had a more aggressive brake pad which tends to warp (what I think are still) stock rotors even more
...auxillary lighting including the spotlights and alternating lights
...rear door locks function only from the front
...have a column shifter
Now ...this much seems to be consistent...as soon as R/T's start being discussed even compared to police packages let alone the SXT's...that is when there seems to be a lot of conflicting answers...
I have seen some say the police packages have a speed limiter but the R/Ts do not...call me crazy but I would think the pp's would not...which does seem to have a more consistent response...it is also said the SXTs do have the limiter...makes sense.
then things start really going haywire...things are mentioned about HD brakes on the pp's and the R/T's...okay so the pps are just the pads and some have said the R/Ts have bigger rotors...(but if you look up part numbers from SXTs and R/Ts they seem to be the same)
It also said the R/Ts have a better suspension...what are the differences specifically? control arms? sway bar? Struts? Yeah yeah than we insist on talking about steering wheel controls etc...those are frilly but different options ..one thing I am fairly confident of regards the SXTs ....consolation prize for the discontinuation of the R/T. Minimal frills...ABS was an option but not standard and Traction Control was either not available or a very RARE option.
anyway...you get my point? We need a definitive sticky with no doubt left after...don't believe me? even if you are a veteran..do a search for yourself and actually look at what you find..more than just one of the results.

Edit: the PPs have a calibrated 150mph speedo....more cause to believe anyone who says they do have a speed limiter is FOS

Added afterthought...I also caught something about the R/Ts having autosticks..but anyway ...more importantly...maybe to leave any doubt behind there should be a committee of sorts ....of 1 or 2 owners of each different package to compare and chronicle difference with actual vehicles optional items such as sunroofs and steer wheel controls aside..?

the info is out there, if you want to collate the info on the many sites and present it here we possibly could make it a sticky. A lot of leg work needs to be done before that happens though.

I for one (owning a 2004 SXT) would be happy to be a PART of the process of collating as much info as we can find. I simply think it would be smart to have a few different people with different models to help compare one to the other , not just sort sometimes sketchy information from web sites...the links for Edmunds and so forth certainly give good leads but for those of us looking for "intimate" details it just does not provide enough.
For example (from Edmunds): In 2000, a new trim, the R/T, joined the lineup. R/Ts catered to performance-oriented buyers, offering a sport-tuned suspension and traction control. SXT buyers got the same engine as that of the pricier R/T, without many of the performance features. That changed in 2003 when the R/T model was dropped; the SXT was given a performance upgrade that gave it many of the capabilities of the departed R/T.
I edited this paragraph to demonstrate a specific point ...tuned suspension...what exactly made it this? what parts?..we know that Traction control was NOT standard on the SXT's even after the R/T was dropped, but still what makes the R/T suspension different from the SXT even before the R/T was dropped? This is where I think it would be useful to have a panel...me with an 04 SXT could compare to someone else with say a 2002 SXT and an R/T ...at that stage of the game it then becomes possible to say "hey..could I make that upgrade if I could find the part?" etc etc. I am currently working on a list for myself of what I THINK are some of the differences, but without specifics as to what makes them differences it will always be a subject for conjecture.

i have an 02 sxt; speed limiter at 112, strange cause even my 01 se went to 120 with the 2.7.
