Question 97 Grand Caravan HELP

My mom's 97 Grand Caravan will die at stop-lights. Also, It starts up and runs fine and then when you put it into gear, it dies. We had it towed to the shop and they are saying that the tranny has gone kaput. Haven't done anything, made decisions, etc. Just trying to figure out what to do. Thanks guys!

Those trannys are infamous for going out without any warnings. If you can find one and put it in yourself then I would go for. If not I would call the junk man and look for a replacement vehicle.

It could be the trans, try this, next time you come up to a light/stop put the van in N before you stop.

It sounds like the torque converter is locked up and not unlocking.

That is what it sounds like to me. Known to the 41te. Converter clutch solenoid is seized or locked, or a mechanical issue in the torque converter.
