The Things I do on Sunday...

So today, The Eagle went autocrossing. This is the first time I have raced the car with the new rear swaybar and I ate so many cones first run it wasn't even funny. The car oversteers ALOT. I have never had any issues on the rear sliding out or wanting to but I did today. At some point I actually was drifting of sorts.

By my fourth run I went and adjusted my tire pressures to help compensate for this, with the frotn bulging at 45 psi and the rear lower at 32 psi, the car found itself closer to a neutral state and was much more controllable under heavy handling conditions.

I do not remember the excat times for I had in total 2 clean runs out of 6 without hitting cones. Seeing that everyone murdered cones just as bad I do not feel as bad. My laps times started in the high 57.XX range with a clean lap of 57.009, and on my fourth try, nailed a 55.XX clean lap making it my fastest run of the day. The last two runs saw me driving harder and pushing the car to its limits and I found myself getting into the 54.XX range. Fifth try I hit two cones, the Sixth final run I just nearly tipped a cone over. (Cones add 2 seconds btw)

The class I was in had 3 other cars, A 2011 Scion TC, unknown mods, a mostly Stock mid 80 RX-7, and a Miata with unknown mods. All three cars had more experience drivers than me and manual transmissions to boot. Their time ranged from low of 51.xx (I believe) to 53.xx per lap. Needless to say they were astounded to see me come kinda close in such a diverse car from what they were running. Once again the Eagle was the Biggest car there (besides the Nissan GTR) and surprised many people.

I still need slightly lower profile tires and a more heavier duty front sway bar to match the rear unwavering ability to roll.

And here are some pictures followed by a inside view of me driving!

Here are a few pictures and a video, PB is being weird right now so I will have some other pictures later. My buddy took these pictures and I have no clue why his camera is so stupid, or either he is. (mis coloration)

very cool! You need to get some magnetic numbers for your car. I've been doing quite a bit of talking with my dad (he autocrosses his Mustang) and I'm gearing the daytona rebuild towards autocross as well. One this I've seen is that manual transmissions isn't really that big of an advantage. In fact, some of the serious guys have autos and just leave it in 2nd gear. Are you having problems with the car shifting when you don't want it to?

The issue with Automatics is power delivery. Manuals just get more power down. But seeing that I have Autostick, I shift it into 2nd near or after the first turn, before redline, and I keep it there. The car will only shift up if I hit redline, I come close but not all the way. This provides excellent engine braking when I lift off the gas. The issue is the little ol 3.3 does not have the power needed to haul the car back to speed quickly once slowed down. After the huge corner you can see my car is not acclerating fast, pay attention to my needles you can see them at the same angle. I lose alot of time agasint more powerful lighter cars in this area. I am hoping to fix this within the next year or so.

One of the friends Photo, If you look at the bumper corner you will see a streak. Battle scars from all out murdering a cone my first run.

I can not wait to get the rest of her photos in full size.

And here you can tell just how hard I was pushing the car into the corner.... (Right rear tire)

gotcha, Time to stroke it to a 3.8! That'l give you the torque you need! I'm looking forward to the daytona with the garrett turbo on the 2.5L. Should have tons of low end torque

For those Curious, Here is a link to the Official times.

http://cfrsolo2.com/2011/2011_01_23_deland_fin.htm

As you can see, I was not the slowest, even with the underpowered large body car I was driving. I was no where near the fastest but I believe I was not that far from cars that were much smaller than me.

I believe alot of time can be made up with some more power. (if you watched the video, you can see after a huge turn around how the car is in second gear and does not gain speed quickly at all)

And here are a few more pictures--
