Concorde Dead. Ridin' a Fifth now.

So I haven't been back to the boards in a while. I checked the "new posts" yesterday and had 900 unread posts. Damn you guys are fast!

Anyway I was on my way up to Buffalo with my Girlfriend when I did a 3 point turn too fast and.... THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP my transmission eats the reverse clutch.

We still went on the trip which was fun, but took her car. I had to leave the Concorde in Brooklyn where it died for the weekend. But I got lucky and found a good deal on a 1984 Chrysler Fifth Ave. Picked it up in Brooklyn as well. So now I'm sporting a Fifth with 38,000 original miles and shag carpeting wall to wall.

How many miles on the rebuilt tranny before it grenaded?

Nice find on the Fifth Avenue, 318 or 360?

Good deal!

You've got a great platform for a real sleeper. Its already sporting the bullet proof lean burn 318, with 140hp and 265lbs of torque, backed by the equally bullet proof three speed 727 transmission and most likely the corporate 8.8" rear end.

There are tons of aftermarked parts for that engine, trans and rear. Hell throw in a Purple cam, some 360 heads, headers and a nice exhaut and you'll wake up that car.

/me drools

Damn! Time to look for a Fifth.....of JD.

Actually, I had no idea those cars had that kind of aftermarket. I may have to keep my eyes open.

Well...the cars themselves don't, but the engine, trans and rear end sure do!

I had a '78 LeBaron. I really loved that car. Roomy, It had that dependable 318. I got side swiped by a Suburban at 45mph. The car was smashed from the passenger front door to the rear end. The passenger side doors, trunk were not opereational, all the glass was smashed out, the rear passenger side wheel was totaly exposed. All I had to do was put on the spare, and away i went. The suburban had to sit cuz the front clip was smashed onto the front wheels. I actually got pulled over by a cop, just because he was curious as to how this car was still driveable. I also had no exhaust and a gas leak. That was on tough car!!

I though all non police package or any non 360 car was backed by A904 or A998 and a 7 1/4 inch rear end in those years?

My buddys parents have one, 89 dark blue 5th ave really nice car, and its just begging for some work to be done to it. I'll bet the lean burn system on your car isn't running so great as my friends parents isnt and is hurting the performance of the car.

You very well may be right. I am more familiar with the police cars.

Nevertheless, a great platform to build from.

It's got the lean burn 318, and yeah the performance isn't always that great, but it does fly on the highway pretty nice. The great thing about the 318 is that it never sounds like its working hard. Even when you're flooring it, all you hear is a nice rumble.

I'm almost positive its got the 904 but the guy who sold it to me claimed it had overdrive. I have to find out for sure.

Either way the car is great. Soft ride, amazing brakes, and power everything. The first owner was a retired cop, the second owner got it in January to settle a debt, and sold it to me. It still has the original whitewalls and I was the first to use the jack.

The Corde is sitting in my girlfriend's driveway until I can get it stored at my place permanently. After that it's going to get a full on performance upgrade. We'll see how it goes. I'd really like to hop up the 318.

Try and find a cop car with a 360 and 727 tranny. First thing you'll break will be the tranny, then the rear end. I'm sure you'll be okay as long as you stick to minor mods like a new ignition system (be rid of that lean burn POS), intake and carb and headers and exhaust. Should be a nice increase without breaking anything.
