Angry Sell the IOM?? [damn hail damage]

Well, i know if haven't been very active on the forums lately, but I've had a lot of stuff going to on lately, and the new girlfriend takes up a lot of time too.. but anyway, last weekend we had a nice thunderstorm roll through town that left my car full of hail dents. I took it in this morning to get an estimate from State Farm, and had them write it up fixing it conventionally, and not paintless ( i figured it might as well get a new paintjob out of the deal if i was going to fix it) and the estimate came out to be $3365.86 or what they figured to be 46% of the cars value and i walked out with a check for $2765.86 (damn $500 deductible). But going back and looking at my car, its not all THAT bad but I'm too anal about my car to leave it like that and i think (hopefully) if i went to sell it now i would come out farther ahead. But man, i really love my car, and it has been completely reliable for over 2 years, so i dont know.... I'm kinda lacking on ideas of what to buy if i were to get something new too: I was thinking of a 300m, but i want to keep it under $10k and not sure if i can find anything in that range. I also was thinking of an '01 Stratus Coupe, but i'll be damned if i can find one for sale anywhere except a nice silver one on Ebay. However, i did find this and was thinking of going and looking at it tomorrow to see how bad it really is:

Otherwise there are plenty of other places to look at cars in Des Moines that i can drag the woman too, and she wouldn't be able to bitch too much because tomorrow is my birthday and she said we could do whatever i wanted to

I think my roommate has a digi-cam so maybe I can get some pics of the damage up sometime if i get a chance

So you are willing to trade in a car that has given you absolutely no mechanical trouble.... for a car that needs to be repaired.... and from what I see repaired from water damage.

Bad move IMO. Just pay the $500 buks, get your Intrepid cosmetically fixed... and continue enjoying a car that has given you no troubles.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that my car just rolled over 106k, and if i keep it i'll probably have enough luck that something will go wrong with it

I would be a little leary about the description of the stratus coupe se...."Description: loaded, leather,Water on Carpet "

Find out details of what exactly that means...cause 7,900.00 is hard to believe....

Brand new Strat SXT's (4 cyl). range from 20-22

and brand new Strat RT's are from 21-27K

so that one had to either been beatin to the ground, or spent the last year in a lake...

Choice between one to fix and one that just needs cosmetic work, GET YOURS FIXED.

I am pretty picky when it comes to my vehicles. Two weeks before Easter a major hail storm came thru here. My lawn looked like a golf course , the hail was so big. It beat the hell out of my hood and roof and fender. I was sick, everytime I looked at the car. I have no deductable and the damage was about $750. I found (after MUCH searching) a guy with GREAT recommendations. He fixed my car in a little over 2 hours with paintless work and it looks perfect. I had taken pictures BEFORE and even with holding the pics up by where the damage had been, I CAN NOT tell where the damage had been. It came out to about $350 an hour but was worth every penny. HE WAS GOOD. If you live in the St. Louis area, it was Tim at TheDentCo. I am completey happy.

Good luck with YOUR situation.

I wouldn't buy anything from Sam's Riverside I had some bad dealings with them when I worked construction down there.

Treps last forever without any problems my 97 has over 140,000 miles on it, and its had no problems, except that the AC Belt broke once. Treps are good cars.

My brother always got used cars...he's drivin for 2 years and has had the following... Ford F150, Camaro(old not sure which year) it actually blew up in our driveway, another old camaro, GMC sierra w/ dual flowmaster, new blazer, 80sumthin Vett, and now hes got some other big truck i cant keep count of them all.

well, hopefully i can... Mom and Dad wont loan me enough to get that 2002 I drove in des moines, but I found another 2001 R/T with 42k (bright red, autostick, leather, sunroof... pretty much all options except has painted instead of polished rims). However, its almost 2 hours away at a dealer and I dont have any time during the day this week to go look at it, so i'm hoping its still there next week when i get a chance to go look at it. Otherwise, the only other R/T i can find is 3.5 hours north in MN and that one has 68k and doesn't have a roof...

I actually was in a similar position..

I had hail damage, and I decided to get mine repaired. I have a 99 ES with about 70K or so.

PDR cost about $1100, and conventional repair was about $4000. I have a $250 deduct.

I decided to go with the conventional at 4K - since the insurance company (State Farm actually) said my rates wouldn't change.
I pick my car up on Saturday..... so we'll see how it looks.
I should get some pics taken, given like 2/3rds of the car was repainted!

Well, I finally did it.... I haven't sold the Trep yet, but some chick looked at it last week and would know by next weekend if she could get the cash. And yesterday I took a little road trip and came back with an '01 Stratus R/T Coupe. I haven't gotten to drive it much more than the 3 hour drive back home so far, but i love it. And unfortunately, right now its sitting in my parents garage so they can get an insurance policy set up on it and I'll bring it down here next weekend. I haven't had time to get pictures yet, but here is the picture from the dealers website.

Hey that interior looks exactly like my brother's Eclipse... I only got to drive it once but I love the 5spd manual shifter and that 3.0L Mitsu has some kick ass low end power....
