94 lhs air conditioning problem.

Okay, heres what I got. A 94 LHS with a dying compressor. It has a complete charge and everything works, its just that the bearing in the compressor is dying. If i used the air for a few minutes, after it gets warmed up, the compressor starts making noises then it just locks up tighter than a drum.

So I have a bad compressor. I found a compressor here in town for 125 bux with a 6 month warranty on it but I am wondering about what else should I replace?

I was told the receiver dryer (50 dollars) and the expansion valve (28 dollars) need to be replaced, is that correct? If so how hard are they to replace?

What I want to do is to have the system evacuated from the a/c shop, and then I will do the work myself and then bring it back to the a/c shop for recharge and flush (is the flush necessary?).

Any other tips?

Thanks in advice.

All the extra effort will pay off long term.
The dryer will keep moisture out of the system and moisture is the enemy.
If you just need it working for this summer used compressor and a recharge will get it going.

You want to make Sure after you get everything Evacted do your repairs. Then Take it back to the shop Again have a Vacum pulled on the System. It should hold a constant Vacum Then you want to charge Vapor into the Suction Side. Yes you do want to replace the Reciever dryer, And orvice tube or expansin valve. Recieve dryer should be simple, 1 hose to one side one hose to the other. Replace O-rings, Make sure you Oil them with Proper Refridgerant oil. I would drain the Oil out of the Compressor and add new Oil. I have heard some times Compressors are shipped with Shipping Oil. Either way I would Change the Oil. The oil will have very little moisture in it. Have fun
