Pretty satisfied about my trip to the junkyard

Well today I had a pretty good trip to the junkyard to get things for my 94 lhs. The previous owner had broke the power antenna when a bird flew into it. All that happened was that the mast got ripped out. The infiniti stereo worked fine but said "err" when I inserted discs. The center console cup holder was broke on one side. The power lock on the pass side wasn't working.

Yesterday I got the power lock assy and the center vents since my center vents were all broke. I got those 2 parts a a couple other small things for 20 bux at the regular junkyard. I put them in and they work great.

Today I went to the pull and save junkyard (where you bring your own tools and pull things yourself). I actually found a 95 or 96 intrepid there, and I grabbed the center console cup holders and the OTIS unit that was still there. I also found a 88 chrysler imperial with a power antenna. I undid the nut on the top of the power antenna and just pulled the whole shaft out with the toothed plastic thingy.

The total cost for all the parts from the pull and save place was 12 bux (including the OTIS which my LHS doesn't need).

I then came home and took my borken antenna and put it into the car. Turned the stereo on and it buzzed. Then I inserted the imperial antenna and turned the stereo off, it sucked it back in like it belonged in that car. Put some lube into the gear assy and then put the nut on top and it works like brand new. I then replaced my broken cup holder with the Intrepids cup holder after putting a little lube on it. Works like new.

Next little project was the fact that when cd's were inserted, it showed "err" on the display. We took the stereo out and I took it apart on my kitchen table. I took it apart enough til I was able to barely see the laser lens. I then took a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and rubbed the lens gently (it was dusty to the naked eye). I then put it all back totgether and put it back into the car. Put a store bought cd in, works perfectly, weee!!!. Put a burned audio cd in and weee!!! it works as well.

I was a very pleased fellow.

Next big project, replacing the A/C compressor and receeiver/dryer and the expansion valve. Once that is done, then I will do a complete flush of the tranny fluid someplace and hopefully the car will be good for a while. (Knock on wood).

Glad you had some luck!

I'm having a difficult time finding a junk yard that has an open lot.

Everything these days is computer inventoried!
