New A/C Drier, Only One Line Plugged??

Just got my new drier for my compressor replacement I am about to do pretty soon.

They only have one of the lines capped off.. does that make any sense? Couldn't it absorb moisture through the open side?

I'm curious, what brand did you guys get? This one is a Tough One from Advance.

Also, is there anyway to tell how old these things are? Even if both ends are capped, if it's been sitting on a shelf for years wouldn't it probably be just as bad as one with the end open?

After looking at mine again, one end is all scraped up and there are small scrapes on the sides. Someone probably attempted installing it and then returned it.

Iv put two on mine sense iv owned it but the first one did not fit properly so i took it back just to find out that the second wouldn't fit right as well so i ended up reforming the line that screws into the condenser.

I bet that's why that one you had was returned before.

I took it out to the car today to compare and there is definitely a different style of bending on that line to the condenser, looked like it should be workable though. How drastic of reforming the line are we talking, or will bending it a bit make it work?

BTW, any tips on the condenser and drier etc. removal and replace? Looks like the small bolts that hold the condenser in also go through the bracket on the drier to hold it in place? I think I am going to take off the headlight housing and possibly the bracket to make things a bit easier.

I went out the other day to check, and the system still is holding pressure after having the compressor lock up years ago so I am hopeful that I can fix it.

You have to be very careful when forming the line its only aluminum and will split if stressed to much.

The hard part of forming the line is getting the mounting holes to line up while its screwed into the condenser i ended up elongating one of the holes so i didn't have to bend the line any further then i already had.

Also there is no need to remove the headlight

The lines that are part of the drier unit are actually steel, although I don't doubt that they will split.

I got a replacement one which is of a different brand. On this one, the bend in the line is much more like the factory style, so hopefully it will just fit without modification.
