Fixing/repairing rear third brake light

On my 94 LHS, the rear brake light is not working at all. The person I bought it from said that they had it looked at once and they were told that it needed to be repalced and that the whole back window had to come out and a bunch of other stuff needed to be done.

What is the best way of me troubleshooting this to see if the rear brake light truely needs to be replaced?

Also is it an led light? I don't know if that thrid brake light works just like any old third brake light.

Thanks...

Have you tried changing the bulb out? It should be a simply $2 bulb that shines through a red lens. If I'm not mistaken you should be able to access everything from the trunk. Then again I might be thinking of a different car.

Yup, you can get to it from the trunk. And there are two bulbs, I've had to change them before. Very easy.

Sure looks LED to me. The LHS and New Yorker have a different 3rd brake light.

Well what is the best way of troubleshooting it to figure out if it is a problem with the light itself or something else? I was told that the rear window has to come out but I really want to avoid that.
