Cool pictures of purple door switch lights

Ok there not great but i took some. I tried with two different cameras and only one could even pick up the light. I think because they are U.V. leds and digital cameras arent made to pick up u.v. light. but soon ill try to make a how-to. just really busy lately.

first time posting a pic i hope it works

Paul

It looks like you have an extra space in the [ img] and [/img ] tags. You also need to right click on the image, click on properties to get the correct URL for the image.

they are not purple bulbs they are leds.
they look like real purple (close to the color of the fuzzy picture second one down).
because they are u.v. leds the camera couldnt pick up the light.
if i put on my 400% u.v. block sunglasses I cant see the light either and they have yellow lenses.
I have extra leds if anybody wants to try this pm me i also have pictures for a how-to

i am putting the pics in my photo album till i put up the how to

if attempting this use 3mm led if available, thats the oem size. if using the 5mm that are most popular and available at radio shack like i did you will have to shave them and shave some of the plastic on the mounting pieces. also when doing the mirror switch beware there are two spring loaded ball bearings that make it so the l and r button stay down when pushed. if you let these go flying across the shop like i did and cant find them you will have to hold down the l or r button while holding the directional buttons to get the mirror to move.

Any questions pm me

Paul

Troutcatcher.........I was wondering if these LED lights would work throughout the car, like the 194's I have in my map lights etc.....couldn't ya sort of do a plug of somesort ...okay I am confusing myself......uh, there is a pos. and a neg to the lights right? Could you do one prong to the + and the other prong to the - part of the light and still get them to work the way they are meant to work? Or is there anyplace to actually purchace "purple lights" 194's 3157's etc..... thanks

for this application they are leds that are soldered into a board. you will have to unsolder them and solder in the new ones. yes there are 194 and 3157 led lights as well as colored bulbs. but be weary of the bulbs with painted glass they fade. you should look for the ones with colored glass like stained glass.

as far as how leds work they have two leads an anode and a cathode. and leds work on current draw not voltage. these leds need 20-30 mA to activate. the cathode is the more negative side and the anode is the more positive side. you can hook them up backwards and they wont burn out but they wont activate either. to get the 20-30 mA with these leds you use a 470 ohm resistor for 12-14 volts. I guess ill do a how to an how to wire an led also since everyone always seems to ask how in these forums.
