installing external tranny cooler

i am going to install an external tranny cooler on my 93 intrepid with the 3.3 engine
i picked up a tranny cooler at the junkyard i'm not exactly sure what it is from but it is about 10" by 12"
is that a good size for this car.

An additional cooler can only help cool the transmission fluid but you also don't want it too cool.
Some hi $$ coolers have a thermostat to bypass themselves.
Install it in series with the factory cooler in the radiator, rad first, aftermarket cooler second.
BTW the best coolers are the stacked plate design like B&M has.

so you mean leave the top hose on my in-rad tranny cooler then run a line from the bottom to the external cooler then back into the tranny?

Yes, exactly! Be sure to check fluid level afterwards.

Since you already have that cooler, fine - but for others, I wouldn't recommend a cooler that large unless you tow or install it on a truck.
