Bad Window Switch

Hi Guys,
My intrepid 2.7L Vin Type R ES will let me roll my driver side back window up and down from the front switch some times and from the back switch all the time. Now when the front switch stops working all I do is go up and down with the back switch a few times and the front switch (master switch...sorry) works as it should for a few hours/days. Very odd. Master switch going bad/dirty or something more?

Ryan

I had that happen with a chrome master switch I pulled from the yard. My black set was so snappy and this one just hung there or didn't roll up/down at all. I switched it out for another one and now it's very quick and smooth. I think i still might have my black master switch in good condition somewhere.

The contacts can get corroded or dirty and can cause problems. There is a way to take them apart. I think you have to pop the caps off each switch then carefully pry from the bottom to expose the guts. I never did it to my bad chrome set. I just replaced it for a different one.

GARDIDIEN that is exactly what happened. I went to pick-n-pull junk yard and got a new master switch, still the same problem (thank god the problem poked its head up at the time). I kept the new switch anyway since it had better lettering on it then my worn one. It was only $6 since everything was half off for blackfriday/cybermonday season. Any how I took the back door apart and took the switch out and I wish I had take a picture of it but I didnt, one of the brass leads solder joints had a volcano crater right on the top of the lead (Had to take switch apart). I wire wicked the old solder off, and put a new bead of solder, and BAM! Window was flyin up and down quick, consistantly, no matter the weather. The new master switch appears to have allowed the other windows to go up and down faster as well. Thanks for all your input, just thought I'd give you a heads up, I know I like to hear a good ending to a crazy story.
