DIY shortened antenna

Pretty easy to do.

Stuck with a 14" height (stock is around 32" tall).

Very easy asthetic mod for those who live in the city (no reception lost for me).

Basically the hardest part is removing the ball, its not glued in just pressed on.

I used a pair of vice grips on the rod that was going to be cut, a crow bar to hold the ball (the cradle), and a hammer to hit the vise grips until the ball pops off.

Then I used a dremel to cut off the excess length and tapered the tip so I could put on the ball and hammer it on.

Came out pretty well, and did the same to my mustang's antenna too (they sell the same 14" length for $20-30!).

Don't know if anyone actually woud care to do the same but I think the trep with an antenna at roof height looks pretty good.

I'l try to get a pic up but my phone camera sucks right now (case lens is all scratched up).

I bought one on ebay that's about 8 inches long that looks just like the factory one for a few dollars and it still works fine even being that short.

I'm too impatient plus if I get tired of this I can always shorten it down to whatever size I want (and I needed a test subject before I ruined my mustang's antenna). For me to order stuff off ebay costs an arm for shipping because of being in Canada...

I'm also planning on adding an 02-04 mustang GT spoiler eventually. Don't like the stock surfboard. That or do a full custom spoiler out of fiberglass.

Or you could get rid of the antenna altogether:

I did this on my last mustang and also my current mustang. Very easy to do and the best part is you can change it to whatever length you want in just a couple mins

I did the one on my truck to match the cab height (1/4" over actually) so that I would know if I was pulling into a garage that was too low.

I too just did this during work, real easy, works great, and looks so much better.

cut off wheel mounted on air grinder
popped off round ball at end
cut antenna at desired location
measured antenna diameter at cut
drilled the ball to the correct hole size
tapped back on with hammer

done within 5 minutes
