2 questions for 2 generations

1) 2nd gen 2.7 trep - hearing a clunk when going over bumps, common things I should be looking at? (normally I would assume sway bar links but...)

2) 1st gen trep, someone I know is interested in buying one, his boss has a non-runner, all he knows about it is his boss drove it to work daily until one day he was being dropped off by his significant other, now the car has had a new starter and still won't turn over... common faults I should be looking at when I take a quick look at it for him?

First, on the 1G and people need to learn the differeance.

Turn Over, Crank, aka motor will not spin over by the starter

Start, Fire, aka Motor will not rotate under own power without starter

Will not turn over, the starter will not rotate the engine.
This is what I have been told, I have yet to see the car in person but it is better to go knowing some of the common issues which could cause this on that vehicle.

Check Grounds, Battery, Power Cables, See if the Ignition switch is sending the 12 volt signal to the starter (small wire attached to wire)
