Haynes manual

Is it just me or is anyone else out there having problems with the Haynes manual? I've always used them for my other cars, but didn't do anything much more complicated then brakes. But when I used it on my intrepid to do the heads and some other teardown stuff I found a bunch of errors, including recommending the wrong tranny fluid(for which Haynes reimbursed me for the repair costs). Now I'm using it to do the head and timing belt on a neon and the omissions and mistakes are getting worse, and I don't mean little things either. Whenever I find something wrong in the book I write the company - but this is getting ridiculous.

gebuh- wondering what else I missed

I've usually had pretty good luck with the basic stuff in Haynes manuals, but I still prefer to use the factory shop manuals if I can get them or if I need them. I've spent most of my life building or restoring cars, so I have gotten away from the books a bit except for the real detailed stuff like timing marks and codes. Find a shop manual if you can...

If you have a sec gen I can get you a copy of the service manual. A lot of other people on DI.NET have this file for their computer. Just PM me if you need it and I will tell you how to get it for free.

I would say if you have questions, ask.. or look at the shop manual.

I know the Haynes manuals sometimes have mistakes, or something that's too generic to help. I wouldn't trust it 100%.

Hayes has a strong franchise and they want to be at all places at the same time... For an experienced guy looking for some hints it may be enough but if you are a novice better be prepared for something unexpected. Descriptions are skimpy, incomplete and scattered all over the book (go to ch. 5, come back, jump to ch. 7 and to finish skip to ch. 9 sort of thing). They never tell you the tools you need, bolt/nut sizes and don't be surprised if you find out that you can't finish because the gasket you've just ripped wasn't covered in the book. Shop manuals are better but definitely far from perfect.

Exactly!
I prefer to use ONLY ORIGINAL service manuals.
I have put some ORIGINAL service manuals here:

Let me know if another manual is necessary to you.
I have all manuals, from 1993 to 2005....

I've found that that they omit some repairs. ie: I'm looking to replace my belt tensioner on my minivan, but the Haynes manual has no precedure on how to do it. All they show is an exploded view of the engine.
Not a hard fix. I basicly know how to do it, but why not include this info?
