96 Intrepid heater not getting hot!!

I have changed the coolant a few times, its overheated becasue the fans werent working. I replaced the fans, got those working cause my a/c didnt work lol. So ive flushed my system twice since then, heater still not getting hot...Gets just barely luke warm on second notch on fan speed control...blows cold on high...Has new thermastat i believe a 160 degree.

also not sure if this matters much, while im drving my temp guage doesnt go past the 1/4 mark notch, does not go half way.

any ideas on whats goin on? ive raked my brain for a couple months now spent countless hrs trying to figure this thing out been lookin in chiltons book and still have no idea whats goin on....any help would be greatly appreciated :(

seen on some thread that low coolant might make thermostat go bad. is the 160 right one for it? is the coolant level correct and did you bleed it? these are things i learned from these forums

195 degree is the correct thermostat for it. If you somehow put a 160 in it then there is part of your issue.

ok, ill work on getting the 195 stat and yea im pretty sure i bled it out. Im gonna try and do that again today and make sure its bled all the way

when under the hood check the 2 hoses that are near dash under the hood, squeeze them both and see if they both are soft.

Both are soft, checked when we got back from town. I also put some radiator flush through the lines before we left and its a 40 mile round trip so hopefully that cleaned out some gunk...

So if both line are soft, what should i do...they shouldn't be soft should they?

Also as i looked further at the hoses, (not sure if this is an issue or not) I have the short hose that goes to the back on the engine block going to the passenger side of the heater core and a longer hose that goes over towards drivers side of the vehicle on the driver side of the heater core. I was thinking maybe they might be switched? not sure if that would be a concern or somethin to look at, so thought i would throw that out there.

Change the thermostat and bleed the system according to the manual. Its like a ten minute job. Make sure you get a 195 degree thermostat like EAGLEESI said. That should solve your problem.

I had the same thing on mine a few years ago, if its full of coolant and your thermostat is good you might need to flush the heater core out with a hose. The waterpump is not positive displacement. Could be a blend door.

blend air door actuator was replaced last year cause i thought that was the problem. I got a 195 degree stat, flushed the system was regular coolant system flush but not sure if it worked. I also bled the system out and it is getting warmer but not like it should. My next step is to take the hoses off the heater core and hook a water hose upto it and see if it is cleared out, if not i'll hook an air compressor upto it and blow out whatever is in there.
