Advice on dash disasembly

Can someone give me a step thru on how to remove a dash on a 98 with the auto-temp?

I think that there is a loose wire on the autotemp unit, and I was wanting to look for myself before giving a donation to the local dealor to re-hook a wire harness.

The unit does work from time to time, when the car hits a bump, or sometimes when I tap on the dash, so I am sure that there is just a loose wire.

Thanks for anyones help that they can give me!

Sounds more like a ground problem to me.

Anyways...

Take the shift knob off. (Hex wrench)
Take the shift boot panel off. (Just pull up)
Take the radio trim off. (Just pull forward its only clipped in there)
Look for your wires. These will be connected to the harness. If those are all ok, you may have a more serious problem. Where are you in central Iowa? If you are close enough I might be willing to come over and help ya with your problem.

No, I missed that car, but I was spending the day in tights...lol

I am a performer in those festivals, that is why I was in town.

I did see alot of houses like that near the festival grounds, not sure what towns we went through though, I was not driving that day..

Look at the How-To for adding auto headlights and it has a lot of the steps for removing the dash.

Thanks for that tip as well Chicago.

I appreciate the fact that both of you responded so quick to my query.

I was hoping to do this on Saturday, so I posted early to make sure that someone responded. Now, with your quick help, I am about to head outside with Tools in hand....just have to make sure that the wife does not see me...

Oh, I should be at Ames at around 2-ish. I kinda doubt that i will stick around as I have a funeral in the morning to go to that i have to be a casket bearer in. (Best friend, head on collison). So i probably wont be in "working" clothes.

Although last time i was stuck in Akeny, i ended up finding a chrome and leather shift knob at a junkyard!
