Post While waiting for 300C

I'll be replacing my 2000 Concorde LXi soon. So far, I'm waiting for the 300C, as long as the production model doesn't differ to much from concept, and pricing stays near the mid 30's. Ottowrkr, when can we expect to see the production model? My other choices are as follows:

Acura TL
Infiniti G35 sedan/coupe 6MT
BMW 325
Lexus IS300

Alderan, you own the G35, but you made a negative comment about how it runs when you go over 70 MPH (over at G35Driver.com). Could you elaborate a little more on this issue? And one last question for Ottowrkr, have you seen, or know anything about the OTHER LX cars? Thanks for your input, Chris.

If youre even considering the front-drive Acura TL, dont rule out the new Maxima for 30-35k.

I also recommend the Infiniti M45 (looks are love/hate) and the Cadillac CTS (looks are love/hate).

Considering

Hey Jesda, you are right about the M45. Unfortunately, I'm in the hate category. I have a co-worker that has the M45, and one that has the Maxima. The NAV system on the Maxima is top notch, as well as the interior. The outside does not do it for me, though. The CTS isn't bad, although my wife thinks it's ugly. They are putting a 6 speed on the newer 3.6L(I think that's what it is) next year. And that CTS-V, the magazines are saying it's going to compete with the M5, but it comes with a $55K price tag.... As far as the Acura goes, it was my least favorite of the bunch, because it is FWD.

I had a wheel balancing issue that it took 3 trips to the dealer to correct. It's fixed now.

You are smart to do research I eliminated the TL based on rotor and transmission problems.

The IS300 doesn't seem to have any problems at all. The website is300.net and almost non existant tsb on all data are a testiment to that.

Seeing how I bought the G35 here are my top 5 list of likes/dislikes.

1). The service is great. Even though it took 3 tries to get the wheel balancing figured out I got a loaner car each time. You always get a loaner for any warranty repair.

2) The power is unbelievable.. the second you hit the gas the thing jumps like it's got a V8.

3) The brakes are fantastic best I have ever felt.

4) Around town the cornering is excellent. The car tracks a corner very well.

5) I love the lights. The LED's in the back look cool as do the HID's up front.

Dislikes

1) Brake dust from hell. Expect to be changing pads often on this car. I have heard people complaining about sub 15K need new brakes. If I clean my car every other week the wheels are black with dust.

2) Stereo the Bose system is mediocre IMOP.

3) Autostick (manumatic) on the sedan is a top gear limiter.

4) At high speed the quick ratio steering can be annoying. Look for this on the IS300 as well (actually it's worse)

5) The titanium color in the interior... I didn't get the sport suspension package because the whole center console would be silver and I hated it.

Did you know the TL is being redesigned I think the new model 2004 is out now... I heard it has 280HP and AWD.

BTW feel free to PM me with any questions I'd be glad to offer any input if you are considering a G35.. other than that good luck with your new car purchase

According to Motor Trend Magazine, the new 2004 Acura TL is FWD only. It has a very long list of standard options for a relatively low price ($33-34K) including leather, bluetooth,DVD 5.1 audio, and XM Satellite radio.

I have not considered a Volvo so I will certainly check it out. Any forums that you know of for it?

I've seen the Crossfire. Unfortunately, it's a 2 seater. If I were in the market for those, I'd probably choose the 350Z - it's much faster and there's a huge aftermarket.

alderran, it sounds like you did a lot of research before deciding on the G35. Can you tell me what you liked 2nd, 3rd, etc best?

are u taking out a loan? if you already have about12-13k to put down id suggest getting something late 60's maybe a challenger or a cuda. they had seating for 4 or 5 and will beat the snot out of any g35 if u invested that kind of money.

on another note. what about the saab liner 9-5 sedan?? its turbo'd

that's linear, not liner

I suggest the Lexus, although BMW has my favorite interiors...

I drove all those cars and the Volvo comes AWD of you want it a big plus. What swung me over is I have had a Volvo before a 940Turbo and it was great. I taded an Acura CL 3.0 which was just not that great and had a lot od waaranty work including a new trans at 35,000 miles. There are lots of owner sites for the Volvo

chrisgaddy-production of the 300 C should start late Jan . The concept looks pretty much like what we are going to build , the only thing is it aint got 20's . The other LX car is the Magnum , nice if you are looking for something other than a Minivan . Then 8-12 months after these 2 cars comes the Trep replacement(CHARGER ? ) , this is the car we all are waiting to see . this should be the best out of all of them . then sometime after this the PVO (SRT -8) models 400H.P + will be built . Thats about what I know .

Of the list, I would lean towards the Lexus IS300. My father-in-law works for a dealership. Those cars are sweet! Would you maybe consider the Audi A4 3.0 Quattro as another alternative?

Second was IS300 third would have been Acura TL-S. I also test drove Acura TSX (most high tech car of the lot but way underpowered), A4 (some interior stuff seemed cheap), Lincoln LS (heard too many horror stories and I would have had to get the V8 which bumps it up to mid 40's), Cadillac CTS (too ugly). I went to a Volvo dealer but I didn't even bother to test drive... just didn't like the looks of them. I wanted a performance sedan and the Volvo's in the 30k range are not that.

The IS300 was a bit too small and a bit too underpowered... Other than that I really liked it.

Test drive everything have fun... man just for laughs I took out a Lexus ES300.... now I didn't really want another huge car and the thing is ugly as shit on the outside but the interior is really nice and comfortable and it had the best stock sound system... too bad it looks like a whale on wheels

You might find this interesting a race between a G35Coupe and an Acura CL-S
