Castrol Syntec?

Anyone use Castrol Syntec? I noticed that it is full synthetic, but about $6 cheaper than Mobil 1 for a 5qt bottle of it. Also, the 3.5L takes 5.5 quarts, right?

The 3.5L holds 5 1/2 qts. with the standard filter. Use a Motorcraft FL-1A filter and dump in six qts. This is what I do on my 95 LHS. No measuring a half quart of oil which to me is a PITA. BTW, I agree with 94EGLTSI. Just my $0.02. :dozeoff:

I could have sworn that Castrol was sued for misadvertising that Syntec was a full synthetic because it's actually a synthetic blend. Personally, I use Mobil 1 and a friend of mine uses Amsoil. Those are the two I plan to stick with. Just my 2 cents...

I'm not sure what Is better, but I'm going to take a stab at it and go for some Mobil 1 or Amsoil if I can find it today. But I've had bad luck with normal castrol in older cars..it broke down reallly quick.

Castrol broke down really quick??? My father worked for years at a place where they had special equipment to test oil... Castrol always outlasted all other brands... I use Castrol on my 71 Mercedes and it works great.

I belive thats correct.

If you want a synthetic, go with a real one. I used castrol before I used Mobil 1. With Mobil one I'm getting a lot less lifter noise.

From the research I did way back when, I remember finding that Castrol dino oil is one of the best. It keeps its viscosity and other properties better under more harsh conditions that other dino oils. But when it comes to synthetic, Amsoil is number 1 followed closely by the cheaper, typically more available Mobil 1...

I was using Castrol dino oil for a while and then tried Syntec. There as no improvement over the dino stuff that I could notice. However, when I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic the improvement was noticeable, particularly at idle. I haven't tried Amsoil yet since I have to mail order the stuff. I'm looking to give Royal Purple a try later on as well. That's what my dealership carries.
