Help..

I just started reading this site, and I figured this was as good a place as any to ask for help, everyone here seems fairly knowledgable...

First some background.. my intrepid is a 96 3.5 with 170k miles on it.. in the past 10k or so it's started having a rash of problems, and I've been able to take care of them, but one of them is giving me trouble..

Lately, at about 45 mph, 70mph, and if I accelerate slow and steady, the engine hiccups. If I step on it everything is smooth, and if I'm cruising at any other speed, everything is smooth. I just changed the air filter, and that helped a lot, I'm putting new plugs on this weekend, and I'm gonna clean the Idle Air Control Valve and see if that helps, but I'm not convinced it will totally fix the problem.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

This could be a PCV problem if it feels like a slight choking and then a slight kick or jump. This is a regular maintainance item and should be checked every 30K miles/24 months to make sure the valve works and the PCV hose is not damaged (rips, tears, cracks, etc.). If you open your hood and look at your engine, your PCV hose and valve is at dead center on the back of the intake manifold/plenum. The valve itself and the hose are not very expensive at all, and to replace either one is a piece of cake taking no more than 5 minutes. See chapter 1 section 21 in your Haynes manual for instructions on checking/replacing said valve/hose.

170 miles... and you're only problem is a few hiccups. Id say you're doing pretty well. Id say continue with what you plan on doing this weekend and then get back to us. Or try using the search box to scan the forums for similar problems

Axle - thanks, I'll check that out.

gaze - new rack, new timing belt, ac shit the bed, it's not all peaches and cream, the hiccuping is just the problem I can't figure.

Not only that, but it just puked up all it's coolant yesterday morning. Went to get it this morning and filled it up and it ran home fine. Not sure what that's about..

Edit: I like the interior you've got there in your sig pic, any closeups?

Another over look item would be the fuel filter should be changed every 15-20,000 miles. A clogged filter will cause bad performance.

Come to think of it, since this car was just given to me a month ago, I should check up on all the longer lifetime maintenance items.

Yes, it's always a good idea for any car you obtain, and be sure to follow the schedule religiously and the car should last for a long long time.
