Factory Alarm

After recently acquiring an '04 'trepid, I was rather upset/surprised to find that it did not come with a factory installed alarm, although, it did come with "SENTRY Key Theft Immobilizer".

I don't want to go with an aftermarket alarm in this car so I was wondering exactly what would be required to install a factory alarm?

I expect you have keyless entry? You'll need to add a switch to the driver's door and trunk lock cylinder to disable the alarm with a key.
Then, if it's like a 1st gen, a dealer can enable the bit in the bcm with a scanner. You'll probably also want to add the LED in the dash apron to show when it's armed.
All of which will require a whole bunch of extra wires and connections.

Already comes with the RKE. I also already have the red LED in the center of the dash (used for the Sentry Key operation).

wire2, do you work at Bramlee? The wires that connect the driver's door key cylinder (and trunk key cylinder), are those the only two wires that I will have to add before taking the care to the dealership for the option in the BCM to be enabled?

Ok, so I have the wires that attach to the key cylinders, and it shouldn't take long for me to install it (once I get off my lazy ass that is). Then what?

They now call it "Brampton Assembly" but yes, I work there.

I believe so but Otto or YB might be able to confirm it. From the schematic, the left door is a lg/or wire, rt door is a dg/or wire in the harness going to pins D3 and D1 of the bcm. I don't see one from the trunk.
One other thing, the power door locks wiring with VTA adds a set of relays to arm/disarm the VTA, so you'd have to add those as well. Otherwise you'll set off the alarm when you unlock the doors with the RKE and then open them. The relays actuate parallel to the lock solenoids, but place either a 2.7k or a 620 ohm resistor from +12 to the bcm.

On the '04 'trepid (don't know about earlier years), there is only a key cylinder on the drivers door, and on the trunk. In my neon, using a key to open the trunk would not disable the alarm, so it needed no "wire" for the cylinder. I have two wires, but I only need one.

What is lg/or wire OR dg/or wire? VTA is an acronym for the alarm? I know RKE = Remote Keyless Entry, what is VTA (you'd think I'd remember from working at the Big Van Plant in Windsor)

Where can I get a wiring schematic for the '04 'trepid BCM? Is it available in PDF format?

And I must say, that is quite a bit of information. You do know your stuff.

light green/orange, dark green/orange, Vehicle Theft Alarm.

I just realized opening the trunk with a key doesn't disarm the alarm, it's a bypass, so no key cyl switch.

Send me a pm with your email addy, I'll send bcm schematics. 92 contacts.

I recently found this information in another forum discussing cars that have the factory alarm installed at the factory, but not activated at the dealership. Here are the instructions.
_________________________________

BTW here are the directions for the tech to activate the alarm:

Connect DB3 to car located inside the car near hood release up and to
right
3 inches. It is a white serial port.

Put DBR3 into to "Stand Alone 98-04"

Once in "stand alone 98-04" go to "security"

Once in "security" go to VTSS

Once in "VTSS" go to "misc"

Once in "misc" go to "configure"

Once there change "RKE" to "VTA"
____________________________

Now, I have the RKE on the '04 'trep. I have the wires that go on the driver's door key cylinder, there is no hood-pin switch thou, that, I can probably get a hold of. I can get a tech to do the above instructions for free, but is that all it will take or will I need more?

I think you're all set with that, (otto or YB can you confirm?).
The only real experience I have with this is a '94 Concorde that came w/o theft alarm. I had it turned on at the body controller, (which talks to and turns on the power controller). Rather than wire door switches, I hard wired a reset switch to the bcu and hid it under the dash, for emergencies. It worked fine with the rke.
