Quality of Chryser/Dodge

Alright, I have to admit there are some flaws in the design of my car, but comon!... One winter night at my previous job I was going to check the oil before I drove home, as I go to pull the lever to pop the hood the thing just snaps up. Uh oh. I got a little impatient with junkyards and just went to the dealership to get a new one, unfortunately though the dealership can only sell you the lever with the cord that goes all through hood of the car. :dozeoff:

I took that and disregarded the cord, well the other day I was about to check the oil again and snap! I ripped the old cable out in frustration and installed the new one, for now I'm leaving it as this :

The damn thing is very easy to break, there's a small wheel that the cable is wrapped around to give it leverage but it's connected to the rest of the the assembly by this little piece of plastic, when you pull on it to open the hood the entire thing twists and looks like something's about to snap off..

Has anyone else suffered these "design" flaws?

Don't be so demanding. It's a Chrysler, if it starts without knocking and the tranny doesn't jerk, it's a good day. If the A/C works, the windows go up and down and it doesn't go "klunk" when you you turn it's a very good day.

When it's working is it hard to release?
Try lubing the latch assembly.

What did you expect to happen when you pop the hood in the dead of winter. Plastic breaks way easy in cold weather. My Volkswagen Jetta went through 5 pairs of door handles because all they were made of was crappy plastic and would snap if you even touched them. chances are that your hood latch would've broke regardless because considering the problem was with your cord it was naturally gonna break. Nothing lasts forever, man. PEACE

could have been frozen and you yanked to hard...with a properly adjusted latch should be able to pop it with one finger...the a/c doesn't work probally cuz you haven't re-chardged it

Just dont hit the dash when it wont start in frustration in the winter. I did that once, and spider cracked the whole dash on my Trans-Am.

Hey, every car (yes, even the highly vaunted Toyotas and Hondas) has its weak points. I've always liked MoPars because of their mechanicals, which have been bulletproof for me. I know Intrepids have a reputation for bad transmissions, but according to my Certified Transmission man, they're better than average and most problems are cause when people add Dexron instead of the right fluid.
