Louder exhaust without upgrading

I've heard of people drilling holes in their factory exhaust pipe to make it sound louder. Does that really work? If so does it make it drastically louder? And will it harm any parts of the car if done that way? Has anyone done this...post pics if you have

Yes it makes it louder. Yes it's stupid.

The loudness depends on the size of the hole.

It shouldn't harm anything in theory, except the exaust system itself, it will rust faster and I'm not sure how it'll be looked up during inspection.

There is virtualy no performance gain from this at all, unless you downright chop half the exaust off...in which case you're kinda hosed cause you lost your backpressure...

In other words don't do it. It's idiotic.

I'd do it if I were you...

but i'm not....

So I won't...

I don't suggest you paying anyone to ruin your exhaust, but if you really want to...

Oh, and open headers? Probably won't be a good thing for you. Engines need backpressure.

Am I crazy or isn't a quieter car a better car, assuming the same power output?

It does not make a ricer hum, OR a nice torquey sounding rumble.

You know those idiots that drive shitty f'n beaters around with mufflers hanging off their cars..and they make that incessant stupid ugly ear shatting dumb noise that cops will practically pull you over and beat you to death for? that's what'll happen, guaranteed.

That, and all your neighbors will be pissed off. People will also probably hate the sound and target your car for some sort of vandalism.

Save the $200-300 and get a nice true dual exhaust that'll rumble real low and nice.. and that people will respect..and if you have emissions tests/safties in your area.. will pass.

You could straight pipe it. Run a pipe threw the converter just to make it stock + be louder.
