Question trunk wont open with key

i have a 96 chrysler concorde, and i am having a problem with the trunk.
it will not open with the original master key like it should. the key will go into the key slot, but it will not turn. i have tried spraying anti-sieze and lube into it that is specifically made for key locks, but it didnt do any good......
but at least i can still open it with the button in the glove compartment box

any ideas as to why the key wont turn? do you think the lock is just froze up somehow? could it be that it needs a different key? is there a cheap/easy way of replaceing the lock?

maybe the trunk lid was changed and the lock wasen't???
that may involve a locksmith to resolve the problem

Does the key have 'VALET' written on it?
If so, then it isn't supposed to open the trunk, just the doors and the ignition. That way you can lock your valuables in the trunk and give the valet key to the parking valet and not worry about getting robbed.

nope, it has no writting on it. its just a silver key with a black top that has a ram head on one side and a chrysler sign on the other side.

Well, most probably the lock is not right for the key. Probably trunk lid or the lock was changed. Can you open trunk from inside? If not, then to avoid locksmith best way is to try the dealer (master key) or to take off the rear seats and crawl into the trunk.

fortunately the button does still work to open it. it is not possible to crawl into the trunk though from inside the car, there are metal braces that go behind the rear seat.
are you saying i can take it to a chrysler dealer and they can get me a key?

if they can't get you a key, they can most likely get you a lock cylinder. if the key runs the car and opens the doors, then its a problem with the lock and not the key most likely

okay, thanks. i'll check with the dealer and see if they can get me a key (or even a lock) for a reasonable price.
the key does start the car and unlock the doors.

The Concorde and Vison, maybe Intrepid are known for have a bad rusting trunk lid due to a design flaw which allows water to sit and rust. I had a new trunk lid put on my car from Chrysler. Your car probably has had the same thing done to it but the guy you bought it from didn't keep the same lock cylinder. It is easy as hell to get the lock cylinder off. Chrysler can make one for your car with a VIN number and a key. It takes a little bit for them to make it (week or two) but it makes it so you dont have to carry two keys for one car. I don't think it is that expensive but i didn't have to pay for it, Chrysler did. Hope this helps...

You can also either have a new lock keyed to your ignition key ,or have the existing trunk lock re-keyed to match the ignition. I had it done for one of my cars once , any locksmith should be able to do it , and it usually isn't too pricey.

I'm beginning to think that this one more example of "cost-cutting" decline in quality of today's modern automobile (and other products) as a result of good old "CHEAPER, BETTER, FASTER!" The R/T hasn't developed lock failure yet, but my '00 Stratus has the same problem with the trunk (first to go over a year ago) and the driver's door where the key lock is frozen solid. From what I have heard, this is somewhat of a common problem, especially when the key lock isn't used regularly. In my case, I use the remote keyless entry mostly, and the inside cable for the trunk more often than the key lock. Actually, I should have both of those locks changed soon before the other door lock goes, and if my battery ever died I would be somewhat up the perverbial creek without a paddle.
