Angry Chrysler Dealership Sux !

About 2 years ago my dad paid about 15K for our used 1998 Concorde. In addition, he puchased an extended warranty from the dealership called smart choice for an extra 2k. We purchased the warranty knowing that american cars aren't the best when it comes to reliability, so we figured it would be a good investment to make. Over these past few years we probably made 7 claims.

Today I go to the dealership to get our heat fixed (not working at all) and the bastard tells me the warranty company went out of business and I would have to pay for the repairs out of my pocket. I told him that I would like to be reimbursed for the purchase price of the warranty, and he said that there was nothing he could do and I would have to sue. I left. The company did in fact go out of businesshttp://www.consumeraffairs.com/auto_warranty/smart_choice.html, however I feel that the "Five Star Dealership" should refund us the money we spent on the warranty since they were the one's who actually sold it to us. IM SO MAD. My dad will go down there monday, and if that doesn't work; letter to chrysler, and head of the dealership. If those don't work then I really want to sue the dealership but I don't think my dad would want to spend the time. Thx for listening......I feel better......but still pissed.

ouch. That's awful. I got an extended warranty on my car also. Luckily, I didn't have issues like this. I've long since past the 75k that my extended warranty covered...

Letters to the BBB won't matter. I just saw the same situation about 3 weeks ago with another automaker. The actual company that is covering the warranty wwent out of business, and the car owner took the dealership to court and lost. The dealers are NOT the ones that carry the warranties. They almost always have an underwriting "contract" company that does it. Most of the time, this is ok, except in these situations. I believe that the dealership actually offered to help with the costs, even though they were shown not to have any responsibility. It has to do with the fact that the owner knew that it wasn't the dealer that actually sells and covers the warranty... I know this doesn;t help matters....but just know you're not alone...

thx for the support. I know the dealership isn't technically responsible, however if they choose to sell something they should make sure its a quality product and in this case it wasn't. They didn't offer me anything other than to overpay for the repair out of my own pocket. All I know is that dealership will never get another penny out of me, and I will make sure to tell everyone know about them if they are looking for a car. BTW its the Kings Plaza Dealership in brooklyn. Maybe I will get the FOX5 problem solvers on their asses LOL.

I wonder how much the salesman made in comission on that warranty as they are negotiable. How long was it for and how many miles. When I bought my 95 LHS from CarMax in Nov. of 98 I also bought a service agreement from them at a cost of $1013 for 2 yrs. and/or 24K miles. Got about $2600 worth of service for that price including a tranny o'haul and an A/C condensor and expansion valve among other things. Great deal and no hassles from then about fixing what was wrong. Of course I did let them do the oil and filter changes during the life of the contract so they knew me as a regular customer which sometimes helps at the new car dealer also. Just my $0.02

I think that the dealers are probably one of the most unfriendly places to take your car to. They talked to me like dirt when I told them what my car was doing...."You obviously aren't good at working on cars. Since you dont' know what you're doing, you probably shouldn't tell US what to look for, we're the professionals." That is what they said. I told the guy to shove it, that it wouldn't hurt them to be friendly and helpful. Then I filed a complaint with management. You should too.

He wasn't rude or anything, I think thats their policy on the matter. Its was for 48 months/60K I think. Currently the mileage is like 40K. I heard the company has most of it's assets in the caymen islands, so they cannot be liquified to pay the debts. I read the total loss is like $100 Million for all their customers. Oh well, I guess sh!t happens.

Just out of curiosity,do you know how much the contract cost? Also you said you made somewhere around 7 claims, what were they for?I can understand you being upset about the company going out of business and you losing out on the end of the warranty, but how much did you save by them covering the previous repairs.Another thing you may consider is not being pissed at the dealership.Did you bring them any other work that was not covered under the warranty?I run the service department at a used car dealer that sells several different warranty's,but I always take better care of my usual customers.Don't get me wrong I am always fair with all customers, but my regulars are more important to me then the ones who come in only when something major goes wrong.Bad mouthing the dealer will get you nowhere, except, maybe to court for a defamation of character,or liable suit.Good luck.
