Extened Range Fuel Tank???

Sorry for the consecutive posts, but I have one more question...for now.

I read everywhere that I have an 18gal. gas tank. Was there an option for an extended range (larger tank)? I get close to 500 miles per tank and neither the gauge, warning lights, or even the OTIS show that I am close to empty. As a matter of fact, the gas gauge shows about 1/4 of a tank. I fill up and the most I have ever put in was 17.5 gal. If I only have an 18gal tank, I am coming really close to empty a whole lot.

Any help is appreciated.

Any idea why the gauge or OTIS does not show I am close to empty? Is the gauge bad?

Your fuel sender might be going bad. Does your gauge fluctuate erratically? The bad part is that I don't think the sender is sold separately; you might have to buy it with a new fuel pump. If it is failing it could affect both the gauge and OTIS.

lol...yeah, I guess I am pretty lucky. I did a search about fuel mileage on here and it seems that many people are getting horrible mileage. On the interstate, I usually get in the lower 30s, which I know is great for that size engine, but the fuel gauge worries me. Maybe I need to have the sending unit checked out. Works for now. I don't want to mess anything up.

By the time I can put 17.5 gallons of gas in my car I've been looking at and listening to the low fuel indictor for about a week. If I fill up as soon as the low fuel indicator comes on I'm lucky to get 15 gallons in the tank. I guess you could consider yourself lucky that it doesn't come on so early, but I would wonder why it appears to show such a high level. You also better be very happy with your mileage...

Hmm, whenever I fill up at the gas light, I get at most about 16 gallons. And that's it. Of course, fuel gauges are never even close to 100% accurate, so keep that in mind.
