Question Sebring Convertible?

What do you guys think of the Chrysler Sebring convertible 96-00? I'm thinking about buying one.

I've driven them as rentals... nice car not fast or anything but for a convertible they drive well and seem really solid.

The only other convertible I have driven was a Mustang 2000 V6 compared I liked the Chrysler much better.

But wouldn't it come with the dreaded 2.7L? If I were you I would avoid that motor like the plague.

I personally do not like them. I think they are very uninspired cars with boring lines and a plain Jane interior. My brother (Chrsyler Tech) says they have numerous problems and have under average reliability.

But, there isn't many choices in the size class for convertibles.

I tend to diagee with you alderann, I am drving an 98 Sebring convertible Jxi limited, the car has now 61,200 miles, yeah the engine is in performance standards a little weak, but who wants to dump 25 bucks worth of gas into it every week, the car is very classy, I still get compliments on it when it's clean with the top down, I would say it is very reliable and a fun car t drive, just do NOT buy a sebing convertible under 98' , there are too many problems chrysler had to work on .... on a scale of 1-10 I would honestly give it for reliability an 9, the trans is as smooth as hell, no sudden jolts or anything, I would suggest buying one Jesda if I were you .. Good Luck and Happy Shoppingv !!!

When I was car shopping, it was between a 2000 Seabring convertable JXi and a 2000 Intrepid. The only reason I didn't go with the Seabring is because I couldn't find the one I want and the price was just too much. They were in such high demand that dealers wouldn't trade them or haggle with the price.

Of course I was shopping for a brand new car. I'm sure you'll have better luck with a used one.

What engine/trans did that have though? An automatic with the i4 420A?

The manual 420A and automatic v6 are avg speed. Go with the 420A manual if possible.

about the " dreaded 2.7L" , if you're talking about performnce then agree 100% with you, but reliability if you're saying it is unstable, then I do not, we all have entitlements to opinions, you do just as I do, I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, that wasn't my intention at all

yeh the sebring is absolutely terrible in acceleration, and 1/4 mile, I believe a 2.2 Eco-Tech Chevy Cav could beat that time

The 420A? Isn't that the 130HP Neon powerplant? In a sebring? I hope I'm wrong. But even with an MTX, I think that's way too little engine for way to much car.

you can get the sebring convertable with the 2.7 and a 5-speed Stick. I got a chance to drive that particular one.. and let me tell you... that 2.7 is quite a strong motor... ... the stupid auto slushboxes chrysler has really hold their V6's back.

The first gen. Sebrings came with the Mitsu. 2.5(?) V-6 not the 2.7 Chrysler, not until later it was available with the I-4. The second generation via the 2001 redesign came with the Chrysler 2.7, and the 2.4 DOHC with 150 hp. And as for going fast, thats not what the car is intended to do, its for open top driving, not drag racing.

The new Sebring coupe, Stratus coupe still use the 3.0 V-6 from Mitsu. via the Eclipse, making 200 hp, and I-4's are Chrysler made.

Good thing that the 2.5 was replaced quickly:

"Full specs on the 2.5-liter, 24-valve V-6 include a rating of 168 horsepower at 5,800 rpm with torque rated 130 pound-feet at 4,800 rpm."
