2004 Dodge Intrepid Police, O2 Sensor Help, Running Rich

Hello,

I am hoping someone can give me some insight on my problem I am currently having. I bought this Ex-Police Car about a week ago and it runs and drives perfect. The only problem I am currently having is that when I had the codes read it was P0172 which tells me the car is running too rich. Basically led me to the BANK 1 O2 Sensors. The Upstream ones on either side of the engine. I just went and spent over $100 on those 2 sensors. Driverside installed and tightened just fine, however, I did not notice until after replacing the passenger side (which are both before the cats) that when I went to install and thread the new one, I figured out that the stupid previous owner obviously didn't care and stripped the threads that the O2 sensor threads into. My question is if anyone can help me out and let me know if I now need to replace the exhaust manifold or what. Any help or input I would appreciate greatly. What would cause the P0172 code on top of O2 sensors? Thanks for any advice frustrating me after just buying it and running so great.

As for the code - check the wiring for damage

I think I would head to the boneyard and snag another manifold. They aren't very hard to change and you don't even need to do any work underneath.

The P0172 may have something to do with a leaky injector on that bank or side of the engine.

The wiring is fine for both the O2 Sensor connections. I've been reading up on the leaky injector possibility and am planning on going out there here shortly and taking all 3 plugs out to check for wetness/gas smell. Now do I only need to check the plugs for Bank 1 side of the engine cause the CEL came back on again last night. As for the stripping of Bank 1 though for the O2 Sensor going into the manifold, I assume I have no choice but to actually get another Passenger Side Exhaust Manifold? Could it be the Cats too seeing I have the 2 upfront by the engine and the 3rd below the car? For being a cop car it's been taken care of and I am sure it's nothing major I just wanted to see if anyone could give me ideas before I take it in and have to pay to diagnose and pinpoint the problem. O'reilly Auto told me it could be my timing belt stretched and bunch of other things. Pretty sure they're just trying to make a buck by putting a scare into me when I highly doubt it's the timing. Thanks again for any advice. I've owned a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with the 3.2 and a 2000 Chrysler 300M and also a 1999 Chrysler LHS. So I am very familiar with these engines, just this little issue is quite puzzling to me.

Thanks again for any insight...
