Navigation Unit..........

Hey

Had a couple questions on the navigation unit.........I have an 99
intrepid.......Did the OTIS........Thanks guys.........

Just started reading about this...........Does this use the same antenna? Or is there a seperate antenna?

I know that you need another part to hook this up........Will it fit in the space where the Cassette is?

Which unit works with the 99 intrepid? I see different units out there..... Model number that is...

What color is the display when the stereo is on......

Thanks

Jim

the NAV uses its own antenna for the GPS functions which is very small and mounts inside your dash with double-stick tape

it s a direct replacement for the factory head unit on size but since the NAV is made for 2003 style harness you will need the wire harness adapters

there are two different MOPAR NAV units, the RB1 and the RB4, they are both the same size and use the same plugs, the RB1 is the "preferred" unit though since it has the full color display with turn by turn maps

here's a pic of the RB1 installed in my 2000 to show you what colors are on when the NAV map isn't up

you can however keep the NAV map showing and the radio on at the same time, you can see in this pic the radio display still shows in the lower right corner of the display

Another stupid question.........

Since this uses DVD to get all the maps.........Can you play a cd......
and still use the NAV functions.........Can you hook up a FM modulated disk player and use the NAV system.........

I also noticed you have the ATC......did yours come with it or did you install it........

you can use the unit itself to play a CD but you cannot use the NAV at the same time, I like many others have a MOPAR in-dash CD changer and just leave the DVD in the NAV unit all the time

yes, since the FM modulator comes through as a radio station you could use that and NAV at the same time

ATC was factory installed on my car

You may want to check out the link below for more information, it has screen shots, intallation and other information. As for updates, I do not know specifically. I do not have the RB1 so how often and how much, I can not answer. However, when the RB1, when first released came with the original DVD then this past summer there was an updated DVD made available.

Also, a member at the 300M club site posted a pic of installation of the GPS antenna in a 300M, it may similar with the Intrepid.

You can buy the Nav kit at the dealer and the radio adapters at an autoparts store. If you plan on using the RB1 for Sirius sat you also need to add a module behind the Nav unit and one in the dash where the amp normally goes, also a sat antennae.

I would like to put one of these in my '04 'trep. Rough estimate, how much would this cost me?

As for the updates. They usually upgreade them about every 18 to 24 months. There are 3 currently avalible disks currently The AG (last two letters) came out in October of this year. Three weeks ago AA came out. For some reason AG forgot to add the state of Texas Points of Interest, so AA is the fix for that. The disks and units are made by alpine. and are pretty good and will do most of the stuff the 852A DVD alpine nav system will do (just is a little slower and harder to use). I have both units in my 99 300M
