Question about Underbody Neons, and Ram Head

Okay, i've been wanting to get a Neon Underbody Kit, and i found one on ebay for about 60 dollars (includes shipping). Well i called the State Highway Patrol and they said that Red, Blue, and Amber is illegal, and the color i wanted to get was Red, because i have a white intrepid, and i also wanted to get a Red Ram Head on the hood of the car. Now i can't get red so i figure the only other color that would look good with white is green, but then it wouldn't look good with a big red ram head on the hood......Plz give me some ideas. i'm out of them.

My girlfriend suggest getting a black ram head on the hood of my white intrepid and still getting the green neon underbody kit, what do you think?

I also want to do the inside of the car in all red.....??

PLZ GIVE ME IDEAS??!!??

Don't put a ram head on the hood, if your going with vinyls. I think they look tacky on anything other than glass. Get whatever color neons you want, fuck the police. And if you think it will match, paint your interior red. Be original.

first of all... im willing to bet that green underbody is illegal too. I know it is in NJ and i cant imagine other states selecting colors. 2nd of all... where are you finding underbodys for 60 bucks? I paid 100 for mine and that was a real nice deal. You dont want to cop out and buy cheapo ones if you want them to last. 3rd... i agree with ryan on the ram head. Only put large vinyl decals like that on glass. Raving has an airbrushed ram head on his car that looks nice too. 4th... stick to the same color. I wouldnt even consider a red ram head with green underbodys. unless you wanna drive around looking like a christmas tree.

Good luck.

lol thnx, the reason i know that the Red, Blue, and Amber colors are illegal is because i talked to a State Highway Patrolman, and the reason that those are the illegal colors is because they are on emergency vehicles. Okay, convinced me to do away with the Ram head, I found the underbody lights on Ebay, here is the link.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...52927......you tell me if you think these are the cheap ones.

Do you think i should go with a Full LeBra, or one that just goes over the hood?

Hey Pat: 1st of all (yes I copied ;) ) Why in the world would green be illegal? It does not represent emergency vehicles. Only blue, red, and amber. Wait? Amber? Like the turn signals? Hmmm... now that doesn't make sense. As far as the red on the inside goes... a county sherriff once told me, "as long as the interior lights can not be seen from the outside while driving then you are safe."

go with other red accents to match the ram head(red light interior) and go with white underbody lights.

I confirmed with one of my friends who works in a tint shop and he said that in NJ all underbody lights are now illegal. Interior lights are legal in any color so long as they are mounted below the windows and cannot be seen from the outside. Its supposedly a driving distraction for other drivers.

As far as the set you posted a link for, be careful with a seller who doesnt post the name brand of the lights hes selling. You could easily be getting crap with no idea how to install them and you're out 60bucks. I bought mine from pep boys on sale for 100 bucks and was not disappointed at all. they are Street Glow Optix and if you look in my sig you can see how bright they are.

The bra is up to your personal style man. If i was going to get one, id rather have the full one. But bra's arent my style anyway.
good luck!

Only buy neon underbody kits from Street Glow or Lite Glow. I prefer Street Glow Gold Series myself.

some states(cops) also don't want the neon tube to be physicaly visible, specialy when on. You also have to take into account of a bored/rude cop that will be picky about ANY neons..... again gotta watch out for cops over anything else......

On the company of neons I have to agree with Hypnos, Street Glow all the way... and the Gold series gets you MASSIVE light output and it's not much more than the blue line least that's how it looked last time I was on www.Sounddomain.com/shop.

You could also look into L.E.D. underbody kits, I know LiteGlow has a set as do a few others, mainly the led units have a contol module that had some fun features that you can't get with neon.

true, the led kits aren't as bright as a neon, this is a down fall of led's and they also have a very focused light strip insteed of a wash of light.

This being said you can get 7 color led tubes that are no larger than regular neons and let you change the colors, strobe and such. Varad makes(least the MAX Power said so) a led under car neon kit that was as long as the normal kits but no thicker than a cd jewel case......... this is something that makes it worth the less output in my mind..but it costs more cause it's made by Varad.

bottom line research everything, personaly I will only buy Street Glow neons and am untrusting of most other companies(just my personaly prefference) the money you spend will be repaid in good equipment, quality, service, warrenty and lifespan of the neon product.............it's worth paying more.

dont buy any neons unless they are streetglow! (or a brand of streetglow like optix) ive seen friends with cheap off brands of underbody lights and they just dont glow as bright, and they dont last very well at all. i had my street glow blue line series (they were red, FUCK THE POLICE ) for about a year and when i took them off, (when i painted the car) they were still in great shape, except for the front neon that got smashed by a hammar because i guess my car isnt too popular at school. this is why i hate people.

ive now realized that ive been rambling so to make a long story short. dont buy it, if its not streetglow

You can get a glow-in-the-dark EL rams head replacement emblem/badge from Topflite. These are often available on ebay for less than $25-. Wires into whatever lighting circuit you have handy and mounts just about anywhere.

On my debadged 'Trep I have one on the left rear bumper mounted with a liberal use of special high-strength all-weather 3M automotive double-stick tape and a single hole drilled in the bumper to run the wiring back. The badge is wired in to the license plate lighting circuit. Looks nice at night. You can certainly put this thing on your hood in place of the original badge. The EL badge from Topflite is sized for a Ram truck so it's larger than the OEM badge on the 'Trep and you'll have to decide if you want that on your hood.

As far as neons go, you can skirt the legality of local laws by having a manual switch on the lights and only turn them on when you know it's 'safe'. You could figure out how to wire the neons up to a relay circuit driven by the TCM/BCM. If the car is in park, the neons come on, car in gear, no neons. Or just keep an eye out for the local Constabulary.

In addition to neons, look at the LED lightbars available from ledtronics.com. More expensive then conventional neons, but they run straight off of 12v, take low current you you'll likely be able to run them directly from any car circuit you want, and they will last forever (much tougher than neon tubes).

I use their super-white LED light bars under the hood and in the trunk controlled by a set of solid-state tilt switches.

in ohio you can have any color neon as long as the bulb itself isnt visible... i just read about it and asked my cousin who is a dayton cop.. the light has to shine only towards the ground...if a cop can see your bulb he can pull you over and ticket you... so just make sure you have them well hidden... and ps...my cousin the cop has red neons on his s-10

Here in Arkansas, the color green is illegal too since it represents the emergency color of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Go figure! I think it is silly sometimes of the way people use certain things to enforce laws just because they don't like something. And yes some cops will still pull you over for such things whether it is legal or not. The only colors legal that are common are white and purple. I wish manufacturers would make more colors available to get around all this hoop-la.
